Before you let out the hounds..i tried searching for an answer..and couldn't find exactly what i'm looking for.

Hey there everyone. Patrick here...28 yrs old...soon to be proud owner of Archos 605 wifi 160gb. I've never owned an archos before..but must say that I've never been to fond of the idea of an ipod...(itunes..blechh). I chose the Archos after much research...finding reviews that placed it over the much coveted iphone and touch(not sure why people like iphone so much). I'm a bit perturbed by the nickel and dime process the company uses. I'm paying over 400 bucks...gime the full package.

ANYWAYS...to the point of my post. I've found flash games on this website, and am curious if I'll have to have the opera browser to play them? I can't have any widgets...and I'd be a little upset if I couldn't play little cute games either. So, can I play any games without purchasing the opera browser? It's pointless for me to get the browser..I don't have wifi in my house, and will be leaving country in a little bit to a place where wifi is not even in the dictionary (my reasoning for getting the 605...to entertain me in a 3rd world country).

Thanks for any help you offer :D :D

Hey Patrick, you can play flash games without the browser plugin. After downloading the new firmware I could, I doubt they would remove it or something in newer firmwares.

Oh come on Patrick, we 3rd world country people know about wifi too
Enjoy getting addicted to Twins (a flash game I found in one of the threads here)

mmh, a psp would have suite your needs much better. the 605 is not really a gaming platform. flash games run awful slow, if they run at all... (only flash 7 support)

Yes, I already own a PSP. I bought it my last deployment to Iraq..and it worked wonderfully. I've managed to figure out all the homebrew on the PSP, and am still using it to this day. However, when it comes to PMP..it's the Archos that I need. While I've managed to squeeze quite a bit of media onto my 1 gig memstick, I need max storage and quality for my media. Over a year in a warzone...I'm gonna want all the media I can get.

I suppose you're not a gadget geek, Laforma. Us gadget geeks thrive on making gadgets do everything possible. Even if a platform isn't MEANT to do something, we love to make it do it anyways. That said, even though the archos isn't MEANT to play games..I like putting it up to it's full potential anyways. My PSP wasn't meant to play old NES games..but I was able to put an emulator on it. My computer isn't meant to be able to rip/burn PSP games...but it does. I satisfy my daily craving of geekiness by making my gadgets work for me. So..if it's a game I want on my Archos, then I'm gonna figure out how to put it on there. It shouldn't be up to the masses to decide for me what I should and shouldn't do.

I'm not arguing, I'm not trying to start animosity with you Laforma. I simply feel that your comment was sarcastic, and irrelevant to my original question.

Heh, i totally know what you mean.

I've filled up my Archos with Books, Flash games, Flash animations, Manga, Comics and trillions of widgets. I actually enjoy trying them to see if they work properly or not.

i just want to let u know, that the 605 is capable of playing flash but its so damn slow, its just no fun. of corse your psp wasnt meant to playback old console classics but in fact it can run emulated games right flawlessly. but why not use the psp for gaming and the 605 for video...

True to the point. I downloaded some of the flash games listed on this website. While they are playable...the speed is lacking. Thank you for your insight. Kudos to you :D
