Text editor?

I think a text editor would be one of the most helpful and easily ported widgets, because it does not require a network connection. If anybody has any ideas on how to add one, post them here.

With widgets or flash there is no way to interact with the filesystem on your archos.
The only way to have a texteditor is instal Qtopia with the hack. It has a texteditor.

In reference to divx118's comment, there is a way, but it's not so pretty (or permanent). It involves SharedObjects (basically a cookie in flash). I played around with SharedObjects for a little bit and made (essentially) a functioning text editor in flash. You could add text to a field and save it, turn off your Archos, turn it back on, press a button and have the text recalled. Only problem was there was no way (without accessing the hidden partition) to backup said text file to a computer, and a hard reset or reformat will promptly wipe the data away.

Was it useful for short term and non-important data recollection - sure! Would it be useful for an important long term document? Heck no!

But, I might have some time to make some revisions and post it here for future use... so I guess you can be expecting to see it some time in the next couple of weeks. (Woo for 200th post!)

Glad, you found a way Cbud to use cookies

. In html local cookies don't work at all.
The problem now is how to get them onto /mnt/data partition of the drive.
I don't think that will be possible without hacking the device and mounting the file where flash stores his cookies in this partition.

You also can use widgets to store variables or text, but that has the same problem.

With this sentence I meant the interaction with fat32 /mnt/data partition.

Well I installed Qtopia now and I think when the next release of this comes out there will be some usefull apps on there that will work a lot faster then html or flash.
But I understand that people don't want to play around with Qtopia, because of the bit technical install and the lack of knowledge in this area.
