Is it possible to extend RAM in Archos 80 G9?
I find 512 MB too short, 1 GB would be much better.
Thanks for your replies.
Extending RAM

Thank you.Nigel wrote:No, it can't be done.
And what about adding swap?
Re: Extending RAM
when the system runs out of RAM, them memory manager will kill off processes, but first it gives them a chance to record critical info about what they were doing. when they restart they will read this iinfo and try to get back to where they were. http://techcure.wordpress.com/2012/08/3 ... sing-swap/ describes this in more detail, and also describes a way of setting up a swap partition on an SD card. I can't say if it will work - but I can say it is a fairly good way of killing off the card if you do manage to enable the swap space. It will also be slow.
If an application will fit in RAM, then Android's existing solution is probably as good as you can hope for if you are using flash storage. If the applicaion is too big for the available RAM, using swap space will be extremely slow. I would strongly advse against using flash!

Thank You, Nigel.
Re: Extending RAM
or u can update ur firmware which pushes it to 1gb.
Re: Extending RAM
What? lol.. No it doesn't. Altering software cannot increase the physical amount of RAM. Thanks for the laugh though.misterJB wrote:or u can update ur firmware which pushes it to 1gb.

Re: Extending RAM
Ordinarily, fw upgrade wouldn't touch physical RAM...
But...I believe that 1Gb G9s only showed up 512Mb of RAM under Android 3.x. To get the full benefit it was necessary to upgrade the firmware to Android 4.0.
Perhaps this is what's meant ?
