Another slow charge thread

Hi my tablet the 101 G9 8GB version has just started the slow charge problem. Ive contacted Archos and only reply I had off them was an RMA form. The device is 1 month out of warrenty. I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes and how much this is going to cost me. Seems like a lot of these tablets had the same problem so Archos should fix it free like Microsoft did with the rrod Xbox's.

Unfortunately we are stuck with a poor design concept, and I say that as one who has spent his long working life as an electronics engineer. The micro USB is a flimsy device, using a power input connection concept that originated in Chin for cell phones. The addition of a dedicated power input device would not have added much to the manufacturing cost of the tablet and made a huge improvement in device reliability. And how stupid it is that the device will not charge when powered off! My unit is about seven months old, and already the USB connector is giving charge trouble, the supplied charger will not longer make contact and charge, so I am using a USB cable to do my slow charging. And to add insult to injury, when the tablet is fully charge and left in deep sleep mode, often I find next morning that it is totally discharged. I suspect that the media manager may be responsible for this, as when I power up I find that there are two copies up and running! And I have no media files to index, only a rather large aviation mapping program. Another irritation is that when is has self discharged and I attempt to restart, it tells me to connect the charger, and then goes into a power off state before I can set it to deep sleep mode And of course in that state it cannot charge!

according to slow charging in ARCHOS 101G9 as following
In USB adepter side we have 4 cable Black, Red, Green & white
Black is connected to Ground (-)
Red is connected to Positive (+)
White to Data (-D)
Green to Data (+D)
solution is to to joint Green and white
you need connect green with white cable in USB adapter

microUSB is supposed to be a very sturdy design. I think the problem here is Archos didn't mount the jack nearly well enough and it breaks off the motherboard if you are not careful.

I was a Nook Color guy for years and over there the charging cable plug was fragile and would crack easily.

Some of these companies don't seem to know how to test durability well, among other problems like firmware lol. Though the endless firmware quirks are probably the fault of several parties and not just Archos.

Although there does seem to have been some Archos G9 tablets that were made with poor microUSB jacks, there is also another thing that makes them easier to break than the jacks on other devices...

This jack is designed to allow connecting a USB Host cable (to connect things like a USB thumb drive, keyboard, mouse, Xbox 360 game controller, etc.). As such, it does not have the standard D shape (like a charging only jack on a cellphone usually has). Instead, it has a rectangular shape.

That allows people to plug in 'standard' USB charging cables, but also Host cables (from several other suppliers). I use a Sony USB Host cable that has a rectangular plug and it works just fine.

However, that also means that when a normal D shaped plug is inserted there is some extra slop or play so that the plug can be easily pushed up/down a bit, or even inserted at a slight angle. And, of course, that also makes it much easier to bend and break the flat solid part inside of the jack.

So, with any device (not just Archos) that allows a Host cable to be plugged in you do need to be a bit more careful with it.
