How does the performance compare to the Tegra 3?
I notice that the Youtube videos showing Mario 64, Shadowgun, Dead Trigger and Asphalt 7 all seem to not be as smooth as my GS3, Excite 7.7 or TF300. Those games are all butter smooth on those devices. The GS3 is a 1.5ghz dual core and also plays smoother as well.

So it looks like on Quadrant (which is just a benchmark, so of course it isn't perfect). I'm not sure of how this actually performs versus a Tegra 3 device, but on benchmark it seems to be similar.Performance Update!!
My God the RK3066 is incredible... I had no idea because I had only done a bit of reading on it but I ran a Quadrant bench and couldn't believe my eyes!
RK3066 TOTAL Score is higher than an Asus Transformer Prime! Holy cow!
RK3066 = 4288
Tegra III = 4085
CPU is where the Transfomer Prime has the biggest lead... and 2 extra cores to work with mind you... and the lead isn't even NEAR double. That means the RK3066 is doing WAY more per core than the Tegra III... That is staggering!

3D is where I expected the Prime to blow the RK3066 out of the water(nVidia and all...) They are pretty much EVEN! the prime is a smidge faster.

I/O = THIS IS HUGE! The I/O performance measures read/write operations I believe? and it makes a huge difference in everyday use of the device. Think of taking a PC from a regular hard drive to an SSD (solid state drive) and that is a good example of a massive increase in I/O... Apps load very fast, everything just feels like it is hyperspeed. The I/O for the RK3066 in this device is MIND NUMBINGLY FAST AT NEARLY DOUBLE the Prime! That means this tablet is going to feel way more snappy in day-to-day operations!

Mem = Part an parcel with I/O is memory speed and the RK3066 once again BLOW THE TEGRA III out of the water with once again nearly 45% HIGHER PERFORMANCE. Once again, this makes the day to day use of this tablet Light Years BETTER than a comparable Tegra III device. This tablet is going to be way faster, more responsive, and just plain BETTER!

Tegra III = 2860
Due to the massive scores in I/O and Memory performance the RK3066 OUTPERFORMS the Tegra III in the Transformer Prime! I am absolutely blown away. I didn't expect a China Chip to ever pull something off quite like this.
Now if we could just work on the bloody app compatibility we would, dare I say, have a near perfect device peformance/use wise!

So a framerate issue with the Youtube videos? Be interesting to see when you guys get them. I am not concerned with commercial games since there is not enough storage space for them. Just game emulators- especially MAME and PSX.

I have a Nexus 7 and the Gamepad. Benchmarks are good, but actual usage might be a different beast. From my personal experience, I'd say that the Nexus 7 has a far better performance than the Gamepad. I can't say if it is a software issue with the games/apps, but many of them which are running smooth on the Nexus are stuttering on the Gamepad (eg. Sonic 4/Non-THD). On the other hand, many games are running beautifully on the Gamepad (eg. Monster Shooter) which are not less gfx intense.

Give it time software updates will come thick and fast I am sure performance and battery will get better over time as the software matures.

There are also ways that we can make improvements ourselves, just like on any other tablet. Once we get working on some custom ROMs, maybe a kernel or two... we should see some solid improvement (which is true for ALL tablets, not just Archos tablets).
Since Archos has put the mapping tool, and other tools on the market now, we can run custom ROMs (like maybe Cyanogen) and still use the tools that were meant to be used with the Gamepad. This is a great step, because that means if you want to run a custom ROM, you aren't limited to either using a stock-based ROM, or using a custom ROM while losing functionality (which has been an annoying thing since Archos first came out with Android tablets. You either use their firmware, or you lose Archos proprietary functionality).
We can turn this into a great tablet, especially for gaming/multimedia if we can get some real work done on it. I know a lot of people that would gladly pick this up for the price, what it offers, and the ability to use the Archos custom tools on custom ROMs now.
(If it ever comes to the US that is... I need to get my hands on one of these before I can get any work done on it.)
(I would buy it from the UK shop, but it costs ~$210 USD with the conversion from USD to GBP.)
