Free units this time around?

I don't want to sound like I'm asking for a hand-out, but I just couldn't find a way of being subtle about it... Has there been any word on whether or not there will be free models given out this year?

Of course I'm fine with buying one myself, but it can't hurt to ask. I know that some of the models are available in Europe already, but I'm not sure when they'll be hitting the market in the US.

Also, is there an actual difference between the US version and the EU version? If not, can I PayPal someone the money and have them send me a 101xs if we won't be getting any direct from Archos (for free or reduced price)?

Looks like I need a new tablet.
My G9 101 just had the touch screen die. The screen still turns on, but the touch is completely dead.

Any idea as to when we'll be seeing the G10s in the US?

The Nexus 10 comes out on Tuesday, and with no real date for the new Archos tablet, I might end up picking up one of the Nexus tablets, at least until I can get my hands on a new Archos tablet.

Isn't out now already? Nexus10 looks awesome because it's Cortex-A15 and Mali-T604, but is $100 more and has no keyboard dock option. Also may be thicker and heavier..

On the US store page the G10 isn't available yet. The device is on the Archos page to show it, but there is no buying option available yet.

Gee, there must be a solar storm or something. My g9 just melted down, discoloring the back, and showing a lot of reluctance to charge from near zero. It wasnt plugged into charger, and im almost sure it was completely turned off. After a few minutes in a freezer, it would sort of work with quite a few false screen touches. If it comes back, i'll have to store it on something nonflamable.

My archos clipper died a week ago, and about a month ago my trusty a5imt melted down, frying a usb port on my laptop. My a3cam has just lost reliable contact with one channel of earpod jack, and has no speakers. My arnova 10 has lost touch response after any sleep, so has to take an extremely long reboot to work.

My arnova wouldnt let me complete that note. I wanted to say my trusty a70 still works like new. Now i am typing this on the gen 9 which looks like it might have survived that heat, which was almost too hot to touch.

P.S. edit... in the small chamce i had my gen 9 asleep rather than off during malfunction, i am sure that just before the last sleep i had stopped all processes under system monitor.

Thanks for the empathy, but my little revision was meant to be positive. Only my old gen 6 and a contemporary rebrand remains dead. I regret the loss of a laptop port, but can still hook up 3 rather than 4 simultaneous usb drives.

Of the gen 8 era my archos works fine, although a contemporary rebrand and an offbrand (arnova) are limping and relegated to backups.

My gen 9 now seems recovered except for the sliding door not wanting to sit in the warped back. Weird, but maybe the deep sleep option will prevent recurrence.

As for it happening nearly at once, i stick by the solar wind outbreak theory. I had predicted to visiting nasa presenters that their genesis probe meant to sample the solar wind would smash to bits in the parachute recovery. It did, and they are still trying to spin it as positive that they are sorting out something useful from the fragments. Maybe the solar gods are mad at me too, and surged us <grin>

Aww, my g9 is starting to act up like my arnova 10 in the sense of losing touch response after sleep. At least it boots faster, and then touch will work. Maybe my old archos 70 and upcoming lenovo yoga 13 convertible will be the tools of my trade. As for worst neighbors, i guess i must be the one. I am not bad at all, but i just realized all the main neighborhood annoyers have temporarily vanished, including the one with a vanity license plate FELON.
