Hi there,
Wonder if anybody can help me please. I am new to Archos and not sure what the problem is with setting up my hotmail email?
I have read a few messages and checked online for advice but still no joy.
I have tried manually setting up the email account, with my email address and password. Then selecting 'manual setup'
I then select Pop3. Then the other settings are shown below:-
Incoming server settings:-
Pop3 server - pop3.live.com
Security type - ssl/tls
Port - 995
Outgoing server settings:-
Smtp server - smtp.live.com
Security type - ssl/tls
Port - 25. And also tried 587
But keep getting an error message afterwards saying - 'couldn't finish'. 'can't safely connect to server'
Hopefully somebody can help. I know I can set up my email through google but I don't want to do that, I would rather use the email function.
Thanks in advance
Linda

Try changing these for your Outgoing server settings:
Security type - STARTTLS
Port - 587
Also, be sure to check mark the box to "Require Login".
With these changes it has been working for me.
I previously had Hotmail set up as a Corporate/Exchange account, but it seemed like it was spending a lot of unnecessary time syncing stuff (even when I had turned off all the sync options). So, I had removed that account.
Later, I tried to set it up again with the exact same settings, but after failing several tries I eventually decided to set it up as a POP3 account.
I had to do some research on the Internet to find out a few things (for either method). It took several tries to get the Corporate/Exchange to work. No idea why that's so hit and miss and couldn't get it set up again using the exact same settings. For POP3 it was just some trial and error to find out it needed the STARTTLS security type. Not sure why it has to be set up like this though.
Seems like Microsoft is going out of their way to mess up Hotmail on mobile devices in an effort to force people to use their own crappy Hotmail app instead (which I do not like at all).

I gave up trying to use the stock apps in the end ended up installing hotmail app from the Google play store.
