Well, that does make sense. I didn't think one of these could handle 5 watts, lol.BooKoo wrote:Yes, it says as I stated, 0.5w.

Yeah, you already said that. And I acknowledged with "Well, that does make sense. I didn't think one of these could handle 5 watts, lol."BooKoo wrote:Its a half of a watt broski, .5 not 5
Am I missing something here?

if you find said 1-2w speaker that fits in the archos enclosure let us know, I would like to upgrade the speaker as well since this one is damaged so easily, even if it doesn't have an amp, a 1w should still work, perhaps not to it's full potential, which is good, at least we won't kill it

Re: Archos 5 with blown speaker.
I'm just curious... has anyone ever found a source for a suitable replacement speaker?
My A5IMT 250GB's battery gave up the ghost recently, and in the process of replacing that, one of the tiny, tiny wires for the speaker broke... naturally, at the device itself. I tried resoldering the lead to the speaker but I'm getting no sound so something's not right. I'd really prefer to just put a new speaker into my device. But so far, I have had zero luck finding an appropriate one. (Ideally, I'd like to use the "OEM" speaker... but something very close would be... "good enough.")
It's remarkable how difficult it is to work on these things... almost like someone planned it that way! (sigh)

Re: Archos 5 with blown speaker.
As one of the folks who had blown his speaker (and posted earlier in this thread), I personally never found an aftermarket replacement. But I did get lucky and found someone else in these forums with a dead A5 that was parting it out. 5 bucks plus shipping for the speaker. Your best bet might be looking in the for sale section of these forums. Sorry I'm not more help. Good luck in your quest!Cary L. Re: Archos 5 with blown speaker.
I actually was able to resolder the TINY little wires back onto my existing speaker. I had to perform some surgery on the speaker itself, removing some black, rubbery "potting material" from the rear surface, and the wire was so fine I literally had to wear an eye loupe while working. But I managed to fix my speaker.SHADO wrote:As one of the folks who had blown his speaker (and posted earlier in this thread), I personally never found an aftermarket replacement. This was an act of sheer desperation, but in the end it worked out OK for me. If the speaker itself had been damaged, rather than merely the speaker leads, I'd be out of luck now, though.

So glad to hear that you fixed it, Cary!
It IS amazing just how fine those wires leading to the voice coil are. Kudos on a job well done!
