ICS test firmware tackling Wi-Fi and HDMI issues

I'm running the 4.0.6 update since about 4 hours now.
Using a Fritzbox 7570, WPA2/AES, SSID visible.

No dissconnects or other issues on Wlan till now.
Browsing is nice and smooth, no browser freeze yet.

surfing MUCH MUCH faster and no problems whatsoever till now. will repost in some days but mostly the connection failed under 3mins with old fw. so im pretty sure it works now.

And this is what I did.

Removed old logs booted tablet and waited for 20 sec after that attached cable and waited for ~20s and removed the cable. While the cable was connected my tv got active and showed black screen instead of no signal. Also tried rebooting the tab with hdmi attached with same result but yellow blank screen on tv.(logs are only for the first)

No mention of the insane crashing ? pass until there is clear sign of work on the stability. Apps aren't the cause because without poking it with stick it still crashes an awful lot.

Care to share logs of the crashes you are experiencing with the apk that I pointed out in my previous post?

- switch on your TV
- select proper HDMI input for display
- switch off your tablet (shutdown)
- switch on your tablet
- connect tablet to the tv with HDMI
- report if it helps

Still no luck for me, will not reconnect to wifi after sleep. I'll send logs later after easter holiday, I'm tired of these issues.

p. s. Did remove and readd access point after update.

p. s. s. After a few reboots it would seem to work, just took very long to reconnect. Still testing, I'll report back with log files if the issue is still there.

- disclose your tv brand and model
- see if your tablet works on another tv
What we see is that the EDID viewed from the tablet is blank in your logs. Now the question is: is it a tablet problem or a bad tv...

Same results with all of them. Also tried out few different hdmi-cables. All tvs and cables are working with different devices ps3 etc. Only thing I can't test is my mini-hdmi->hdmi.

Hi

test 4.06 firmware loaded from a complete reformat.

Wifi appears OK, Browser appears OK

However HMDI still U/S, as is GPS only apps.

My LG LCD TV will NOT work with my Archos 101 G9 1.5 Turbo connecting through HDMI

This TV only has one HDMI port, and is connected normally to one of three HDMI sources, DVR, Bluetooth DVD and Sumvision Cyclone micro 2 media player. The TV functions well on all three of these sources.

Plugging the hdml using your procedure, or any other order of connection does not display any thing on the TV, the TV displays a flashing "No Input" message.

However the Archos does show some changes. If I run a video and whilst the video is running plug in the HDMI cable after a second the sound on the Archos mutes and the video starts to stutter very slowly, after 5 seconds the sound returns to the internal Archos speaker, the video resumes normal speed and then the cycle repeats. If I plug the hdmi cable in before starting the video, when I start the video the Archos shows the video loading icon forever.

I have not got another hdml input device here, what I will do is to take the Archos to my colleagues house and try it on his TV over the weekend.

I am still unhappy that the only way I can get the GPS to function is to use it with WiFI and location services until I get a lock. I can then turn off the wifi and location services and restart the mapping app. It will run and get a lock.

HOWEVER if I try to run the GPS only it will never lock. This rules out using the Archos away from a Wifi AP. I want to use it in the car in the country with a OS mapping app. This will not work in the present scheme of things.

Nope. Sorry will pass till its a little more stable, got my work on the tablet now. I will stick with honeycomb until ics is a little more stable....sorry u know...people do buy them to actually do stuff, rather than beta test each iteration of a fw release. I am quite happy to wait and ask dumb questions, aka why I have a label on the box that says upgradeable to ICS when its not. Thanks for asking. I will endeavour to try when I see the word "crash" or "rebooting" missing from a least a few posts first

I have installed the 4.0.6-Beta Firmware on my "Archos 80 G9 16GB ICP" (European model) about 2 hours ago and the Wi-Fi connection to my Fritz!Box is stable so far. No matter whether I stream a video over the Internet, extensively browse the web or wake the tablet from sleep mode, etc.: not failure yet. - One thing is strange though: While the tablet states that it is connected at 65Mbps, the web interface of my Fritz!Box claims that it is connected at 39Mbps only!? Other devices are shown to be connected at 65Mbps in the same overview, so it is unlikely that the Fritz!Box is wrong.

As for the HDMI-output: No problems so far on my Philips TV-set. - But this was already working for me using the 4.0.5 firmware.

4.0.6 seems to fix some of my wifi problems. I can connect with 802.11 N and AES encryption. Live streaming is not as smooth as 3.2.80 though. The streaming will stop every several minutes and buffer again. But at least the tablet stay "connected" and no need to restart to get the connection back.

Personally, I've had a far better experience with ICS than I had with Honeycomb overall. Yes initially there was a wifi bug, but that's been fixed a while now, and mine has worked perfectly ever since.

I have just installed 4.06 (Everything was ok with 4.05 except SD permissions).

-Wifi did not connect (WPA2), it tried constantly, but never connected.
-Then I went back to 4.05: Wifi still did not connect (until now, it worked like a charm).
-Then I decided to try 4.06 once more and Surprise! wifi worked again.

Now I am testing: HDMI is ok, SD permissions are ok, wifi connection seems to be fine...

But: GPS (with wifi and AGPS) still doesn't find any sat. With 4.05 it worked ok.

The new 4.0.6 firmware has fixed my SD card permissions issue, GPS locked in quickly this morning and no problems seeing Wi-Fi networks although I didn't have this under 4.0.5.

Overall browsing 'feels' much faster but that may be due to using a new browser (Opera mini) and the overall system feels smoother. No lock-ups or crashes yet after two hours of use. I don't use the HDMI output, so I can't comment on performance there.

I'm running a classic G9 80 8GB, board version A80-v5 and OMAP ES2.3.

So far, this feels much more like it. Good work.

Hi,

I d/l the extract log app and retested the HDMI problem.

Firstly My TV is quite old, it is not a full HD tv but a 1280 x 720 native resolution, with downscaling from 1080i (if required) It is a LG model LG26XL2R.

On its menu it has two choices for hdmi input, 1. DVR and 2. PC. I tried the tests with both forms of input.

Looking at the log, it can be seen that the Archos gets the EDID info, but keeps choosing choice 13 1280 x 720 AT 60HZ The hdmi then immediately shuts down!

(I would have thought choice 19 would have been more apposite).

I live in the UK where we use 50HZ.

You will also see that there was a problem with the clk frequency (slightly out).

I had a look at the edid format, but it is very complicated to decode manually. especially with the E-Edid data blocks, if I make one error in the count the meaning of the sequential data blocks is screwed, since the data is sequential and not set on nice whole number byte boundaries. I was Googling for a program to decode the bytes for me, I assume that you possess such a decoder!
