1.5GHz - anyone have one yet? And how much RAM? (renamed)

It has been claimed that the new G9 1,5GHz omap4460 has no overdrive.

This might well mean that in many cases it would be no faster than the 1,2GHz (which can also run at 1,5GHz in overdrive). Besides that it might also mean that the more frequent use of the 1,5GHz mode on the 4460 might well shorten the G9's lifespan due to the more frequent excess heat generated (when running at that speed).

If the above is true, why buy the 1,5GHz? The extra RAM would most likely not even be noticeable in general use and for most users, but the devices lifespan would almost certainly be shorter for everyone...

Can someone verify whether or not the new omap4460 does indeed lack an overdrive to it's 1,5GHz?

How many people have actually bought a 1,5GHz model in a shop already? I thought they weren't due for another couple of weeks and they're certainly not yet advertised on the ARCHOS website...

To be more specific, the settings\about device page for the 1,2GHz G9 reports the max frequency to be 1,5GHz. As 1,2GHz is standard, the max is called 'overdrive'. Here's a good thread on the matter

Did anyone else read that woot.com (only sell products for 1 day, so is no longer available) wasn't actually selling the 1,5GHz but the 1,2GHz? Apparently they too got it wrong..

Might be me that don't understand the question, but by overdrive do you mean the option to overclock?

My experiences with overcloking a pc CPU, is that it is not a good idea. You put more strain on the system, and it can potentially overheat and become unstable. You can use water cooling in a pc to help with the heat, but this isn't really an option in a tablet. And when you overclock a CPU is uses more power, not really a plus when you run on a battery (lower battery life).

I have the Archos 101 g9 1.5 GHz (512 MB ram) model, and from what I understand this model isn't an overclocked model. And I can't really see any advantage to buy a 1.2 GHz and overclock it to run 1.5 GHz. You don't really get anything out of it than a potentially shorter lifespan of the ARM CPU, and maybe a more unstable device with shorter battery life. Now I don't know how much difference there are PC CPU vs. ARM CPU, maybe someone with ARM experience can clarify this?

Plus you have the advantage of a faster memory bandwidth on the OMAP4460 vs. OMAP4430.

Now if the OMAP4430 is a clocked down 1.5 GHz maybe it would be another question?

Interesting, so there are a number of 1,5GHz 80's out there now but still no 101's. Do you know if yours is 512MB RAM or 1GB? And can you tell us the Ref.Nr on the box (just above the serial number)?

Don't really get you still don't believe there is a 101 g9 torbo 1.5 GHz (512 MB) out there I have one (ref 501862 P/N A101 16GB TURBO WW).

And you have a teardown review on the forum here on the forum to with also 512 mb of ram, with images what more prof is it you need?

501862 is a known 1,2GHz reference number, altho Archos might be reusing their reference numbers I do find that especially hard to believe (altho with Archos you never know).

It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I require a bit more proof before I do believe the new 101's are available for sale already and that they are actually being sold with 512MB's RAM. IMHO anything out there with those specs are most likely POC's (proof of concepts) or pre-productions meant for testing purposes. In other words, not meant for sale.

Now that I can understand, must say been disappointed in the support from Archos or lack of. Written twice to then for some official statement on the ram issue, haven't received anything from them.

Now from what I can see the 1.5 GHz has been out since Dec (Archos.com)

And combining that whit the YouTube videos saying the 1 GB will be available in March with ICE, I choose to believe that there are two model of the 1.5 GHz.

I would not advise anybody to buy a 1.5 GHz model before the 1GB has been fully confirmed, because it must affect the price of the 512 MB model, and who wants the 512 model when there is a 1 GB model coming out.

Where did you get those numbers from?
And why would my tablet say there is an OMAP4460 ES1.1 in the device if there isn't?
Is there any more testing we can do to confirm the processor?

Quadrant is known for its unreliable testresults, try for yourself and run 5 test, each score will be different. Still yet to find a benchmarker that gives consistent and believable results for all devices so if you do find one, let us know.

As for uploading images, the easiest way is to use an image host as that doesn't overload the forum's storage space. I use http://tinypic.com/ as they provide free personal storage if needed (but not obligated) and as opposed to most other imagehosters, tinypic provides all the forum links and tags on upload so all that's needed is a copy and paste to your post. Extremely easy and efficient (and a backup for later if you so please).

All of the 4460 devices that I've seen so far are CLOCKED at 1.5GHz, not 1.2GHz.

Mine came clocked at 1.5GHz, and there is no overdrive setting. There is no governor setting on the G9 devices, only the G8 devices.

Hey Tizzy....there's no such thing as overdrive on G9. Weather 1.2 or 1.5. They come factory clocked at either speed base on which OMAP.
As mentioned overcloking is actually not good. I don't see why the OMAP4460 would suffer for being clocked at 1.5.
Being clocked at 1.5 is the max frequency. It's not that the tab will run @ 1.5 all the time. Same is true for 1.2 There's a governor include within which regulates this. I have 1.2ghz tab and they are not allowed to go over 1.2

On the other side....The woot versions were truly 1.5 as confirmed here.
