Recently, I got a archos 35 home connect android alarm clock. It is very nice, only the touch display is very cheap and bad.
From the avm.de homepage, I downloaded the android-app "fritz!app fon" and installed it in the archos device.
This app makes it possible to make VoIP calls though the android device and the avm router.
So now I can make voip phone calls while lying in the bed, just by talking to my alarm clock.

I hope the touchscreen on the home phone version of Archos Home Connect is better than the touchscreen on their clock radio-- I've been working with the radio version since Saturday evening (when it showed up on my doorstep)-- it SUCKS-- even way worse than the Archos touchscreens of the past (and that's saying something). It requires you to literally pick the thing up, holding firmly in one hand, while "touching" (jabbing FIRMLY) with the finger from the other hand, akin to holding a ball of hard clay and punching a hole in it with your finger-- it requires THAT much pressure in order to get the screen on it to respond. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE-- and I suspect it's how Archos got away with marking it with such a low price (US $149)-- by using such sub-par digitizer/controller hardware. The visual quality of the screen is adequate, not outstanding, but hey, it's only a 3.5 inch screen-- it does the job for which it's intended there-- but the "human interface" design was completely botched-- and that includes installing their so-called "firmware update" that it detected upon my first boot-up-- I'm not confident any of their future updates will compensate for this glaring failure for such an otherwise potentially attractive insertion into the "tabletop clock radio" market.

you are right, the touch screen is pretty bad.

Well, the sound is again built for what it's designed for: a clock radio-- yes admittedly there are other tabletop devices (Bose for one) that of course sound way better-- so this Archos unit is a "get what you pay for" quality--sufficient volume quality for bedside use, but not as a "whole room" sound system-- ESPECIALLY factoring in the so-called "touchscreen" which should be properly called a "punchscreen" since it requires considerable force just to get it to respond! And forget using the notification bar-- I still haven't found the right "finger slide" technique to get it to predictably slide down-- since it requires a hell of a lot of finger pressure, it allows for absolutely NO feel for the proper starting point for the slide motion-- and trust me, putting your finger directly on the notification bar (one of the main tools of the Android operating system) elicits NO response on this device. I guess I must be spoiled on their previous offerings (I own their original Archos 70 Android tablet, and still use it pretty regularly) so I expected at least somewhat similar quality with regard to the touch interface. WRONG.
