I'm noticing that apps generally load slower with this FW. The worst case was the stock music player took 13seconds to load!
The homescreen reload is flakey as usual... but I can say that switching between apps quickly, just a few minutes in each, means the homescreen reloads faster. I guess the launcher memory doesn't get unloaded. Spend a good 20mins in an app, like reading a book or web browsing, then I'll always see a 5-10 second dealy realoading the homescreen.

I suspect the cause is the memory management has been changed, it isn't as aggressive as it used to be.

1. Stock apps using 10mb (e.g. Music player) - seems larger than I recall, like it used to be 5mb

2. Apps that boot load will eventually reload in the background after being killed off with task monitor. In the past FWs those apps (Market, Appslib, gSearch, Gserv Framewk, Online FW Update, Facebook, Amazon apps, etc.) would stay unloaded until reboot.

3. Background apps memory usage is back up leaving 40-50mb free with the background apps reloading. In the past, usually been staying 80-100mb free.

I don't know if this started with x.65 or 80

4. Apps RAM allocation for background apps isn't being being reduced. The background apps are using 1-5mb which means less for launched apps.

In media players the network uPnP & SMB options don't appear right away like they used to, have to wait about 5 to 10 seconds. I've had oner spotaneous reboots when stopping playing a file from SMB folders.

The network now takes a couple of seconds longer to find/logon to my Wi-Fi b/g network.

Anyway, is there any chance that this firmware update will solve this problem?
And will the firmware fully reset the tablet? Since i'm travelling now, that won't be an option.

Don't do anything now, wait until you get home. Can you connect a regular card reader to pull the images off the camera card? That might help.

Mine is still slightly sluggish and will probably get worse as I add other apps back in (from the full format and install).

As soon as I get my new to me Iconia set up I think my 43 is going back for warranty for the dead top speaker and then it might be off to ebay or at least the SDK and go back to 2071.

Upgrade was from 2.4.65 by downloading and manually installing. It was not a full reset.

I am repeating problems that have been mentioned before in earlier firmware versions. None of these are new:

1. If automatic screen rotation is "off" in system, there is still a "tilt" sensor that is not being ignored.

2. If a folder is chosen and opened into the thumbnail view, and then an individual image is viewed, sometimes When the image is zoomed out using the "back" icon, the program crashes back to the "launcher" program instead of zooming out to the thumbnail view. This seems to happen when the program has a lot of images to deal with, and usually on the first run of the program. Re-opening the folder and view image again, and then closing it using the "back" icon, and it usually zooms back to the thumbnail view as it was supposed to.

3. When very tall (ratio) images are rotated so they become very wide (greater than 2:1), then they can overlap when viewed as individual pictures.

Power Switch Issue Mentioned for 2.4.65:

4. There is no substantial delay from when the "Power" button is pressed and when startup begins. There needs to be at least a 2 - 3 second delay to have any safety from accidentally turning it on. A power button which is exposed beyond the body like this will always have that problem inherently, but you really should have at least some substantial delay before activation on any design. I think there was before this upgrade.

I totally agree on the power button delay. 2 second delay minimum for power on or wake. Huge problem.

I had figured that was part of the overall sluggish performance. I've seen the volume take 5 seconds to appear ont eh screen when a volume up/down buttons is pressed, and then the volume sometimes does, sometimes doesn't respond. It very messy.

seem to be unable to get the screen rotation to work properly anymore...

never had that problem before and unsure what to do now

Try going into settings and recalibrating the gravity sensor, Remember that it must by laying on its back on a flat horizontal surface when you calibrate.

update concerning the rotation problem:
tried many times recalibrating both gravity and touchscreen settings, on all different angles of the device,with the automatic rotation setting both on and off....

then again but after resetting my launcher pro to default settings....And now everything is working fine !!!

I never had any issues mentioned on this forum, and with this issue solved am very happy I updated the firmware !!!

I will be venting here and I am not sure if these issues are strictly firmware related but my A70-8 is showing annoying tendencies.

Possible BUGS?
The absolute most annoying is the fact that a short button push no longer goes into light sleep with the LED off. It used to do so up to the .71 firmware. Same thing for deep sleep. If I use a task killer first then it might go into deep sleep. I have no idea what is running to cause these problems but looking at the running services is of no help.

Another thing is that the device is just perceptually slow to respond and slightly choppy on scrolling anything. I do not have many apps installed and have done a complete reset for the last firmware upgrade. Any further resets are unacceptable. This could be just low quality hardware.

WiFi connection is absolutely unreliable. Keeps dropping and showing a weak signal. I remember a brief period when the device was on Android 2.1 that the WiFi signal showed very strong. With the 2.2 upgrade that went away. Happened on both the A70 and A32. Every other device I own connects to my access point or router without issues. It was a little more reliable on 2.1.8. This is an Android or Archos problem.

VENTING
For me, the biggest issue with all of my Archos devices (I own 3) is that I got an iPad2 issued to me for my job. It just works. There's some Apple bashing on this forum (after all it is an Archos FAN forum) but quite frankly the device just works. If I had all the money I spent trying to avoid Apple I would be able to buy 2 iPads. I came to the realization that I have no interest in learning how to tweak Android to make these things work. Maybe Android is good on a higher quality device but these things are just not ready for primetime, cheap price notwithstanding. I was prepared to replace my old Blackberry with an Android phone but this experience has me running to the dark side to a device that is actually reliable.

On the other hand I like my A32 as an mp3 player but the battery will not hold a charge. I got it through Amazon a while ago and I'll bet it was returned by someone for the same reason. It works good enough for what it is.

I think at some point I am going to try the SDE route in the hope of going back to 2.1.8 firmware so that my device can return to being a reliable Internet tablet and email checker.

Sorry for the rant but that's the way it is.

Network problems with Archos101 G8

Using FW .65 and .80 I get problems with the standard file-explorer. Somethimes and suddenly the mediaServer and the SMB disappear - or I can one step further and then "the directory is empty". Sometimes a reboot helps - or not.

I use a Fritzbox 7390 with its NAS and online-storage (Telekom tcloud) in the cloud. There┬┤s the same problem.

But at the same time, Telekom-mediencenter-app works well.

So, what to do?

You should do a reset and check back.
After update to .80 from .65, my market updated it self to 3.3.11, couldn't update it before.
On .65 market was dead slow, now works as before and it is better organized and better works with multiple accounts on device.

Over all system performance is probably bad because of something went wrong with the update.
If you really experience slower charging and faster discharging of battery maybe you should consider RMA.

But first, backup what you can and do android reset and see if it performs any better.

After I did the update my market stopped working. It didn't return until after I did a full format and loaded the firmware again and of course Arctools, etc.

Seams like I have to turn off WiFi to make my A70IT go to deep sleep. If I leave WiFi on and press PW button, green light is left on. No wake up/sleep locks found in services monitor.
