Incapable of smooth HD playback?

It says 720p, but I tried some 720 videos with Vital Player. Slideshow.

There is your problem, the default player works just fine, if you don't want that find another app for playing video files.

I find Rockplayer works pretty slick for playing all sorts of videos.
