So, let us see the specs:

599 - 465 = 134g

755 - 649 = 106g

Well, let's say that the flash memory weights 10g, then we will have 144g/116g left for the HDD and the extra battery.

From the seagate website we know that the HDD is 92g. This will leave 52g for the extra battery on the 80 G9. This seems reasonable. On the 101G9 this will leave only 24g for the extra battery and I wonder if we will not end up with battery life on videos of under the 5 hours like it was on the A70IT HDD...

P.S. I know that there will be extra cables, plastic etc., but this is just an estimation.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the specs. There were user reports of the Gen8 101 weighing substantially more than its specced weight.

An impromptu poll? Everybody with a Gen8 put theirs on a scale and report what the weight is.

I think they specified a weight without battery (standard in marketing) for a device with non-removable battery!

Probably the best thing they could do is develop a Bluetooth cam with audio/video and integrated drivers in the Gen9 firmware.

Then it could be clipped to the tablet facing in ANY direction, could also be worn on a cycle helmet, placed on a car dashboard or even left in your sisters bedroom if you are a sad teenager ( I'm sad, just no longer a teenager! )

I'm aware there's a data protocol for video on bluetooth but I've never actually seen anyone use it. Does bluetooth actually have the bandwidth for that?

Actually, you took me back a long way here to the old OptiEyes Bluetooth camera that used to work very well with WinMo phones.
They did not have audio (but a mono channel would be easy to add for a future dev of this cam) and if someone could add an Android BT protocol/driver to handle this just the same it would be great!!! I still have mine...

Any thoughts on why there is no gen 9, 3-6" replacements for the 28, 32, 43 models?

Sorry to retread old ground.. was the manufacturing shipment delays from Asia related to the spike in global energy prices, global trade policy, or Archos Specific issues? My interest is because many resellers were not prioritized to get product, when Archos.com did first-- so us early adopters missed out on saving $25-$50 through resellers.

I've currently have the 43, and can't seem to justify a larger tablet over a netbook. Perhaps the processing power and high bandwidth connectivity (dual band 802.11n?) will make tablets more attractive in the future but not for me today. Even if it's not this year, I'd like to know that Archos will have gen 9 3-6" form factor options available eventually, otherwise I will be looking to others to fill that void. Creative Labs, Cowon, Motorola and others for example.

I also have a gen8 firmware request.. can you please see if it's possible to make an option to specify connection (in wireless settings) at "G" or "N" when the default is g even though n is possible. Also, I know this may open a can of worms, but can you ask if it's possible to tweak the "N" support to work better, many have complained about it.

There's a minimum screen requirement for honeycomb. That's why Google isn't releasing the code to everyone, so they don't shoehorn the interface into a tiny screen and ruin the honeycomb experience.

I don't think it's really dependent on the screensize since there's no distinction between a 7" and 10" from the software vantage point if they both have the same resolution.

The announcement mentioned that HC 3.2 will be on G9. 3.2 is out yesterday on Xoom, which apparently introduces res independence. It's a logical stepping stone, since ICS will unite phones & tabs.

Why HC wasn't released to AOS is already stated by Goog themselves. The code simply isn't ready for public consumption. SD support was only just added in 3.2. Basically, the entire 3.x rev is one long beta for ICS.

It begs the question of how soon G9 will get ICS after its intro in Q4. A precursor to that question is how much customization needs to be done to graft on the various Archos "bits" onto plain HC. Craig?

The reason why there isn't a dual-core OMAP4 on a sub-$200 PMP device is obvious. It doesn't make financial sense. Having an OMAP3 probably killed the 32/28, since corners had to be cut to make the price points, and they weren't competitive regardless. I doubt if it helped their sales any.

Just saw Charbax's G9 video and am considering waiting until Sept for one. My worry is that Archos, once again, will have stock issues and the unit won't be widely available until either December or well into 2012. Is this a valid concern or has Archos made plans to keep stock on the shelves?

Archos got a rather large investment earlier this year, so hopefully they have the proper funding to ramp up production. That will be the only way that they can keep up with demand. These things are going to fly off the shelves before they even get to them.

did we ever find out if the presence of the 3G dongle means we won't be able to tether? my wife is now interested in a tablet, i'm steering her towards a g9. if we both have one, it would simplify things to stick to one dongle that we'd ideally (perhaps not realistically) swap back and forth. i'm tethering my a5a now, which is adequate for most things, and i'd like to keep that option just in case she's on a roll and won't give up the dongle.

I think "better cases" is a matter of preference. Slide out cases are probably better cases for some people. I think that Archos should offer both the slide out case and a case like you mentioned.

I hear you on it being a matter of preference however I believe that a gadget of any kind, within a protective case 100% of the time, is a better investment than one that sits on a case only when its not being used.

I would not say any kind of devices, like my laptop and netbook I would not want to leave in my protective cases as it would cause them to run warmer. With our tablets, any case used would keep any heat produced by the device trapped more and cause it to run warmer, probably not a big issue with our tablets, but I know when I run my tablet while it is plugged in it does get fairly warm. Just depends on peoples use and case designs.

If Archos releases a flip-type case that form-fits to the g9 101, I would buy it in a heartbeat when i buy my G9.

However, if they release an attachment for a slide out keyboard with a case (somehow), i would buy it in a fraction of a heartbeat (LIGHTSPEED!)!

That makes more sense as handheld devices is a bit more specific than a gadget of any kind. But still any electronic device will produce heat while in operation and cases will hold that heat in a little more. I now some people said that their tablet run warm, mine only does while it is plugged into AC. I'm just saying that is something else people can consider when getting a case and that an ipad like case is not necessarily better than a slide out case and vice versa. What might not cut it for some might be the bees knees for others.

both - the 101 and the 80 - seem to come in 3 flavors: 8GB flash, 16GB flash and 250GB hdd.

But also the CPU clock varies!!!

80 G9 8GB: 1.0GHz 299$
80 G9 16GB: 1.5GHz 329$ <-----------
80 G9 250GB: 1.5GHz 369$

101 G9 8GB: 1.0GHz 369$
101 G9 16GB: 1.0GHz 399$ <-----------

So, my question is: is there a typo for the 16GB models?? I hope they'll have 1.5GHz, especially the 101 16GB which I intend to buy...
