Yahoo Messenger with the video plug-in works on my A70. I've tested it A70 to PC, A70 to Mac, A70 to iPad, and A70 to another A70. It's not as good as Facetime iPad to iPad but it does work....TweetyRJ85 wrote:Skype 2.0.0.47 should finally support video support for SOME android devices...anybody had some luck after upgrade? Re: Firmware 2.3.81 released - report bugs here
1)Still cannot add Facebook under "Accounts & Sync settings" (Have not been able since they updated to froyo)
2)Music app from Google still reboots the tablet when I try and play a song.
3)Most off my videos still play very pixelated or turn greenish when playing them (been doing this since 2.3.20). Does this only for my movies that video is h.264, audio is mp3, and container is avi. This is almost all my movies. My few movies that are mkv play fine. It plays videos pixelated whether they are played from internal storage, sd card, or over my network. I have UrukDroid on my tablet as well and when that was based on 2.1.8, the videos played fine while stock android did not, then when urukdroid incorporated 2.3.26 it had problem playing videos too.
4) It did lock up twice on me (once when browsing Internet with Dolphin Mini and once when trying to install an app with Amazon Appstore). But that is a lot less frequent than the lockups I got on the other 2.3.xx versions. and I have not gotten any reboot loops.
I just did a normal update, I will probably try and do a full wipe and reinstall this firmware fresh. I'm hoping that will at least fix the video issue and the occasional lockup. Have to wait until I get home to try first as I need to backup my stuff.

All of the h.264 videos I tested play great (720p obviously) except for Transformers 2 - its giving me those green pixels - so I just blamed it on that video itself cause I tested a ton of other videos and they all ran fine.MarcusMarcus wrote: 3)Most off my videos still play very pixelated or turn greenish when playing them (been doing this since 2.3.20). Do you have the Cinema Plug-in? Not only did that allow me to play AC3, but videos that were pixelated before, play excellent now.
Re: Firmware 2.3.81 released - report bugs here
I had a terribe experience updating. After plugging it in to install, the "ARCHOS" screen came up and just hung. I waited for about 10 minutes hoping it would do something. Nothing. Unplugged it and force shut it off. Then it wouldn't cut on at all. Held the power button for 30 seconds, held it with the volume up button, the volume down button. Plugged in. Not plugged in. Attached by USB to the computer. Not attached. Nothing.
Saw that the green light still came on with the charger in, so just plugged it in at 10pm and left it overnight. At 1:30am, the thing comes alive on its own and woke me up because of the bright screen light. Battery still only showed at 99%, which has been a problem since the last update. It's saying I have the lastest update, but I'm skeptical that it fully installed.
I am considering wiping it and starting over, but I really hate to lose my apps and configurations and have to spend the time to reinstall and set up everything again.
Oh...and one more thing. Right after the very first Archos update, my power light stopped blinking when the unit was fully charged. I have never seen it blink since, even after leaving it charging overnight and having it say (now) 99%.
Is anybody else having these or similar problems?

Re: Firmware 2.3.81 released - report bugs here
Mine are not even 720p, they are just standard def videos. The same files (played from my NAS) play fine on all my other computers at home, just not the Archos tablet since the 2.3.xx firmwares. It is certainly not the videos. especially seeing as if I install urukdroid that is based on Archos' 2.1.8 firmware, the videos play perfectly again.Ach wrote:All of the h.264 videos I tested play great (720p obviously) except for Transformers 2 - its giving me those green pixels - so I just blamed it on that video itself cause I tested a ton of other videos and they all ran fine.MarcusMarcus wrote: 3)Most off my videos still play very pixelated or turn greenish when playing them (been doing this since 2.3.20). I would try re-applying the firmware.
As for the 99% and no flashing light, when you charge your battery? I typically drain mine to under 20% (or 15% when the warning appears) and then I only charge it until the light flashes - I would not suggest leaving it plugged in.
Re: Firmware 2.3.81 released - report bugs here
Thanks. Since it says I have the latest firmware and won't download it again, should I simply download into my computer and sideload and then run it again? Or is there an easier way?defenderbob wrote:Mine had hung at the reboot as well - though I was able to power it off and back on and all seems well.hwysqrl wrote:I had a terribe experience updating. On my A32, the only options I have when I get to settings>wireless>wifi settings>menu button>advanced> is MAC address and a toggle to "Use static IP". There are no options for "wifi sleep policy" there.pfontaine2 wrote:
As a follow up, I did a full wipe of my A32 and installed the new firmware.
The music player continues to play perfectly in shuffle mode.
However, I'm still having problems with OldTimeRadio, AudioBooks, and PocketCasts. These apps continue to have a problem playing while the screen is turned off and the device is running off the battery. Once the screen turns off, the apps stop playing. Once the screen is turned back on, the apps continue to play. When the unit is plugged in via USB, this problem ceases. All these apps stream files off the internet. I haven't tried Pandora yet.
Oh well....at least the music player works fine for now.

could you please check if settings>wireless>wifi settings>menu button>advanced>wifi sleep policy>never changes that?

You can do that, or you can download it directly on your archos and then run it. Thats how I typically do it because I don't always have my USB cable with me. Either that or Dropboxhwysqrl wrote:Thanks. Since it says I have the latest firmware and won't download it again, should I simply download into my computer and sideload and then run it again? Over night, the device still only charges to 92%. I did not do a wipe and upgraded from the most recent firmware.

I would drain the battery entirely and let it charge, and repeat.Diknak wrote:Over night, the device still only charges to 92%. I did not do a wipe and upgraded from the most recent firmware.
I believe the Archos 70 users a LIPO (Lithium ion Polymer) battery and should NOT be tricklecharged (IE, unplug it when its done and do not let it sit on the charger overnight).

I have Flash Player 10.3 installed.
Appslib kept nagging me about an update to Flash Player 10.1 available.
I uninstalled appslib just to eliminate that.
This is just crazy.

Just a note... h.264 with mp3 audio is not a standard combination. You should be using AAC audio with the h.264 and would be well of in an mp4 wrapper (even better if the PSP type is used). You also need to be aware of the total bit rate of the file, these gen 8 devices can only do up to about 5mbps for high def. in the h.264/AAC codec and only 30 frames per second. I think the devil is in the details with your video files and you might be exceeding the capabilities of the gen 8 hardware. I was very disappointed when these limits were pointed out to me.
That said the h.264/AAC stuff that I have encoded works just fine, but it is not very demanding content, I have not tried any major label movies.
Has anyone tried to go back to a previous version of the firmware yet?

Leaving it plugged in shouldn't hurt it. Mine stays connected some times all day and has no issues. The charger wont trickle charge either as that would damage a lith battery and make it dangerious.defenderbob wrote:I would drain the battery entirely and let it charge, and repeat.Diknak wrote:Over night, the device still only charges to 92%. As for the firmware update, I did an OTA update from 2.1.8 since 2..3.2x caused so many issues. So far everything works great. Only issue I still have is they still kept the weather off the clock app. If I find any issues will post again as I use this at least 4-6 hours a day.

I'll try to convert my movies to AAC from now on, thanks for the tip. I'll try that when I get home. The bit rate is only 1000kb/s so I'm sure that is not exceeding the capabilities, especially when the same files worked on all previous firmwares before the 2.3.xx firmwares.Greg_e wrote:Just a note... h.264 with mp3 audio is not a standard combination. Re: Firmware 2.3.81 released - report bugs here
Did a regular OTA update on my device and it is not going so well. The music player is still freezing though not as often as previously and now Power Amp is force closing on start. Anyone found this on theirs? Other items are not working well either. Recorded video files still say cannot be played after they are done playing. Beyondpod is working fine so it is not a general sound issue.
On the plus side, pics load faster and my Kindle app, kobo app and aldiko app all still work.
