Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
Re: Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
I'd prefer 1 or 2 GB of samples, not re-encodes, but extracts, split-outs from the actual top-20 or so currently most downloaded 1080p movies on BitTorrent. Again, not any re-encoding done, just the pure native original 1080p MKV high profile video file that millions of people are downloading right now. And it would be best with different types of scenes, as fast action uses higher bitrates, but it would also be good to have some scenes with less action in them.

It's a rather detailed tutorial on how to configure your PC to run DXVA. It's got a few test videos for checking how compliant your card is and if you configured it right so atleast, the author thought they were representative of what you'll find out there.
These are the videos i've been sending out to other tablet owners, and when an early Archos 101 owner (One of the guys from germany?) actually managed to play the Clannad video (The one with the dancing odangos), i was sold.

Here are 3 test files that'll determine the capability of the video decoding power of the OMAP4460.
This video (scene from Avatar), cut from an actual 11GB Blu-ray encode from the internet, represents the most challenging blu ray rips you'll see. It is 10mbps at 1920x1080 (16:9), not 1920x800 (2:35:1 ratio). Most movies are in 1920x800, but I found a 1920x1080 video to make sure the Archos can play any 1080p rips you find on the internet.

The next video will determine if the Archos can play *any* 1080p videos. This is a direct rip, no transcoding at all, from the Blu-ray disk itself. It is 1920x1080 to be extra stressful, and the whole video has an average bitrate of 32mbps. This is about as challenging as normal 1080p videos get.

This video (scene from Iron Man) is another Blu ray video, with a bitrate of 35Mbps at 1920x800, but it has Dolby TrueHD audio instead of regular AC3. The purpose is to see if Archos can decode the Blu-ray audio formats and play the file in its original m2ts container. If the Archos can play this, it can play *anything*.

I agree because I am not the least bit interested (never have and probably never will) in animation....Charbax wrote:Hajile_Ibushi wrote:Anyway, Charbax better have the first unit so we can send video requests to settle this.
If you want the best ever video file testing, I need help, send me a batch of the worlds best HD video test files, not too many, not too few, and most importantly, it has to be representative of what is most popular right now on thepiratebay, isohunt all those BitTorrent sites. I don't think only testing anime is representative of what 100% of Archos users want to do, and I don't think testing home encodes is the best way. The best way would be to split some small compact samples from original very popular downloaded 1080p and 720p all high profile MKV downloaded on the worlds most popular bittorrents. Few complicated animes can be tested too, but I'd like to see samples from the worlds currently most downloaded 1080p MKV files. Then I can try to put all those on my MicroSD and see if I am allowed to test them as soon as I get an opportunity.
Re: Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
Thanks I will try those. Some article reporting from London says an Archos representative said it can play 1080p High Profile up to 42mbitps, I'll test the native Blu-ray stuff.Chengbin wrote:Here are 3 test files that'll determine the capability of the video decoding power of the OMAP4460.

It would be nice with more of those clips like the first one here, from original and popular 1080p MKV High Profile movies that are right now traded on BitTorrent.

I remember that one. I canceled the download because, what the, 11 GIGHajile_Ibushi wrote:No argument there. These fansubbers are the furthest from following any standard. The fact that the archos can play all those different combinations of video/audio codecs is what blew me away.
You want the best? How about Advent Children. There's an 11Gig 16ref video i can link you to. Can't remember the profile, but it's gotta be insane.

Sure, but those anime fansubs are the most widely diverse codecs around. If the archos can play those, it can play anything.kramer28 wrote:I agree because I am not the least bit interested (never have and probably never will) in animation....

or simply have too much time pushing the boundaries of computing after they got bored with video games in general

Hey ya Hajile!
I still have your two clips from a while back! I'm using them as sample clips for my test suites. Hey do you know of any VFR (variable framerate) ones?

Re: Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
Just read here that someone got 10 bit video working in software mode with Mx player on their Transformer prime. Was wondering if someone with turbo 1.2Ghz or 1.5Ghz could try out if they could get them working. Ofc I can't give a link for a full episode in here and I can't find any samples for 720p 10 bit so you would have to find the file by yourself. Any 720p 10 bit encoded anime/video is fine. Ofc I can pm a link if you can't find any.

Re: Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
The built-in player isn't playing Hi10p videos for me.
Downloading MoboPlayer from the Market allows them to play flawlessly though. I'm sure there are other apps that can play them, but maybe we can convince Archos to add support for Hi10p into their functionality.

Re: Omap 4460 hd video capabilities
That's all nice, but on my Archos 80 all 3rd party video players can't access the HDMI port directly. So far all 3rd party videoplayers I tested play inside the 4:3 screen. That's why I'm hoping Archos will announce a tablet with 1080p touchscreen and OMAP5 very soon.Harfainx wrote:The built-in player isn't playing Hi10p videos for me.
