PM Spam

Another problem in the endless flood of spammers.

We now have people signing up, not posting anything, and spamming people's PM inbox.

I just got some PMs from a user (jaykayenn) telling me that he was getting spam from another user (EricaMaskav). So I had him forward me a PM, and it was just spamming him a link to a sales website. I've banned the spamming person, so that one is taken care of.

The person had a website on their account, and they had a signature with the link, but no posts, so it was basically undetectable unless someone reported it.

So now we have to keep an eye on new accounts, even if they haven't made any posts, because they now don't even bother making posts, they just go straight to spamming people.

Everytime I log on I look at the latest member to sign up. If they have no posts but have a web address I always write their name down and check up on them later. I have banned a number of people this way. I also check to see who the latest people are that signed up and sometimes look to see if they posted anything.

I have not heard of spamming PM's though so that is new and quite bad. Thanks for the heads up.
