New Firmware is a problem don't install it

Last night I uploaded and installed the latest firmware (I think it was 2.3.26) and now my archos keeps freezing right after startup. I can start an app but in a few seconds it freezes and I must reboot it. So far this morning I have rebooted 27 times. Plus everything is extremelly slow now. Please tell me how I can fix this. Basically my tablet is useless now. My tablet was working great before the update, why does Archos company keep updating the firmware and messing up our tablets?

Mine is working fine with the latest firmware. Perhaps try reflashing?

What is reflashing? Are you talking about rebooting? If so I tried that many times. I am going to let it set on (and frozen) for a while and see if anything happens.

Try doing a new install, maybe the first one didn't take fully. If that doesn't work, do a reset and install from scratch.

I called Archos Tech support, their answer is to do a complete reformat and start over. I don't want to lose everything. Three times the Archos Tech people just hung up on me.

I would suggest wiping every time you do a firmware update.

There is always the chance of something not being over-written properly, something not being moved, something not being copied, many possibilities.

If you're worried about losing everything, and don't mind rooting your device, you can use Titanium Backup to back all your apps and data up, then just restore them on the new firmware (that's what I do every time).

In a Gen 8 thread I posted my displeasure with 2.3.20, but I must admit it might have been premature of me to blame the patch.

I've gone more than 24 hours (using 2.3.26) without a lock-up. All I changed on my system was uninstalling Firefox 4.

Are you using the stock Launcher? What Apps do you have installed?

Some Apps are no longer compatible with this firmware version. If you sideload, your taking a risk.

My personnal experience with 2.3.26 is quit good.

I installed the update today and i its very well done no complains. The only thing you must be given attention is that when you download and install (both) you can't do that on the battery stand, so before you do this, connect the device on the red, because otherwise the installation is not compleet or corrupt.
It was the first time with this update that i have a problem with the installation, i put the device on the red at the moment i want to do the installation , this is not the good way to do it. I must do it over again and put the device on the red and must restart the all thing, downloading again the update and making the installation. Keep in mind.

After I installed the latest update, the system rebooted, then promptly freezed at the desktop. Restarted it and hadn╚øt had any troubles again. i noticed the OS is slower now and multimedia updates take almost twice as long.

I also had issues with the release from Mid April. Archos updated it April 23rd, with Version 2.3.26 and it seems to have fixed the issues. Previous Archos upgrades have always been very good.

I have had the Gen 7 Versions and they worked flawlessly.

My only fix was to reformat my tablet. This becomes a problem when I can no longer find all of the apps I originally had.

I installed new Firmware (2.3.26) on my Archos 101.
You may need to reboot more that once.
Now working fine and pretty fast.
No USB problem found.

I had also been on the "I hate 2.3.26" bandwagon, but weeks after complaining then uninstalling FireFox4 I'm finding the firmware version to be the smoothest ever.

One thing I have learned form owning this tab, back-up up everything and have a plan for resetting it, because you will need to do it often.

Here's a little write about how I do it, takes maybe an hour in total. Once you do it couple times, you can do it 30 mins. Well worth the performance increase. I am down to doing it like once a month and my tab is reliable enough that I take it to work and use the TuneIn Radio for 8 hours w/ few issues. I fought doing it forever because it's a pain, especially the first time. But now it's just more like regular maintenance and gives me a good opportunity to get rid of the all crap I install that get used for a day or two, then just takes up space.

For example, Appslib is worthless, except for the ArcTools, so I keep a copy on my PC so I don't have a wothless and large file taking up space. Load the copy at reset instead of the hassle of Appslib. Gmail is another unneeded program for me, I use the factory email because I rarely send emails out on my tab, just like it for checking and deleting. Also, I love customization, but a lot of the ADW themes don't uninstall correctly, so they don't appear, but still use space on Internal Memory.

And lastly, I have a program called Memory Usage Plus, it ranks programs from 100-500, set it to kill all the 400 & 500 level programs every 30 seconds, which will give you at least twice as much RAM because it kills all the crap running in the background you don't need running, like the Firmware Update checker. But it doesn't kill the stuff you do need, like email sync or programs that are open. It works well and a necessity for this tab. The standard app killers are useless IMO.

I know, a total pain, but that's what has to be done to have a functioning tab.

And without a doubt, don't update firmware unless you have a done a reset.

Trust me, it's 100 times quicker to do a reset then filter through the countless issues which will eventually lead you to a reset. Plus it will probably give you heart a break from the never ending stress of this tab.

Settings > About device > Power management > Power management mode > Overdrive.
