Why I love the 70 more.

I already had the 101 and liked it, not loved it. I had trouble finding a good ereader, and upon second glance it felt to bulky. Had trouble finding a decent case for it... the whole experience left a sore taste in my mouth, not entirely's the 101's fault.

But yesterday I bought the 70 (After spending 1 night with a 250 HD model) 8gig and I am loving it. This is what a tabled should be like. Now mind, I am away from a stable WiFi conection, so its still a gamble if installing the latest update was all that smart, seeing as Wifi has been iffy in some FW's.

But other then that, I actually find a tablet useful now. Moon+ is but a snap away, Dolphin takes care of the browsing needs. I also bought a new 16gig SD card so no worries with storage for me.

I'm so glad to have bought the 70. Already put up my 101 for sale, I really have no need for it, although it is still a good piece of kit. If I actually could justify keeping it I would.

You're not alone....I started with the A32 and did not like it a bit. Then A43 and found it too small still. Then jumped on A70 8gb then when A101 came out I lusted after the big screen & full size USB. Yeah, I liked the screen real estate and kept it for a few months. But then missed the media space and finally found it to big to carry around.
So, went back to A70 but this time I went the 250gb. I'm not game player. So the few game issues with the hard drive base version are not my issue.
But men,...Free AT LAST. No more space issue. I loaded ALL my video, music, pictures and still have 20 gb left. Well I love it.
All of a sudden the need to have internet connection all the time is not that critical at all.

Well came to find out ...Archos 70H is unique for the space. With the A70 8gb and A101 16gb I had bought an expensive 32gb micro sd.

Well, I may sell it on ebay now. I don't need it any more....and that was only a total of 48 gb versus 250gb.

I got my bases covered with warranty if the hard drive died on me.

Also this time I bought from none else than Walmart - USA and mine comes now with 3 months return policy - no questions asked.

if only Archos can put a full size USB on the A70 Gen 9.

Well...I love it. Viewing angels much better of course ...compared to A101.

I am so enjoying the 70 8gb. The SDcard is great and now I find that the Dane-Elec 8 GB flash drive works like a charm straight out of the box. You just attach the flash drive to the Archos via the little adapter cable and the Dane-Elec's red light starts to glow and the Archos notification screen tells you that iti is mounted, and you move the files by copying and pasting in the FIles app and that is that. Backing up is a breeze.

I love how light the Archos 70 8GB is and I take it with me everywhere. 8 GB of internal storage is plenty when you have the SDcards and the flash drives.

I would love more system memory allocated and a higher resolution screen, but really the Archos 70 takes care of everything I need. I used google maps all over Sicily and I did not miss GPS, although I am sure I would have loved having GPS if I had been driving. But for someone walking or taking city buses, google maps does beautifully. The Dolphin browser handles day trading stocks very nicely,with multiple tabs on for trading, charting, and news updates without a problem as long as the wiifi signal is strong. The kickstand is a godsend for hours of day trading.

I concur to the A70 love here!

I just *love* the fact that it can fit in my jacket's pocket.

I have to confess though that, for PDF reading (without text-reflow), the A101 might be a better fit.

I used google maps all over Sicily and I did not miss GPS, although I am sure I would have loved having GPS if I had been driving. But for someone walking or taking city buses, google maps does beautifully. The Dolphin browser handles day trading stocks very nicely,with multiple tabs on for trading, charting, and news updates without a problem as long as the wiifi signal is strong. The kickstand is a godsend for hours of day trading.

How did you use Google maps (presumably) away from a wifi connection?

I just received the 70 today and bought it mostly for the purpose of tracking and trading my stock portfolio. Right now I have MBT mobile and TC2000 loaded on my Nexus 1 and hope they will be useable on the 70. Would appreciate if you could maybe elaborate on your setup. Thanks!

For day trading, I use 3 tabs open simultaneously: 1) my fidelity trading screen for entering trades and tracking orders, 2) bigcharts.com or freestockcharts.com for charting and 3) a third tab for moving among various other sites, including realmoney.com for Helen Meisler's briliant charting calls on the market, InvestorVillage.com for info and analysis on the smallcap oil stocks I trade, sometimes Yahoo finance for discussion of stocks, and Yahoo's default setting momentum indicators (I use RSI and ROC, and I have found them to be eerily accurate) for technical analysis.

I never pay any attention to moving averages. I am always looking for levels and direction, and the big picture. With a very simple set-up as above, which is the same as I use on my laptop, I have tripled the value of my portfolio in 2009 and 2010. This year has also been fabulous so far. The Dolphin Browser HD 4.4 and the Archos 70 have no trouble with 3 tabs open simultaneously, and the speed is almost as good as my pokey Mac G4 laptop with the 11 inch screen that I use for trading when I am not travelling.

I maintain a very simple approach to day trading. I limit myself to oil stocks and I look for good reserves and good exploration wells already drilled by them or by a company with wells near by. I like to trade on step-out wells and derisking large potential reserves. The Archos 70 is quite adequate for what I do, and using it to trade while in Sicily in March was very profitable.

One nice thing about the Archos and Dolphin Browser is that you can set the Dolphin to show the desk top version of internet sites, not those stupid mobile versions that I get on my iphone. It is impossible to day trade using mobile versions of sites such as fidelity, Yahoo, etc. as they eliminate much needed information.

I find the speed of the Archos quite adequate for what I do, and I do not use the fastest clock setting, just the default Optimal. I admit that I would like it if it drew charts faster, but I do not want to sacrifice battery life.

It would also be nice if it had 3GS or 4GS. I have not been able to tether it by using my iphone.

It does not know where you are. I downloaded the maps of Sicily while I was still in the US before I left, then I used the maps to walk around Syracuse, Palermo, and Catania. Whether this would be adequate for driving, I do not know, as it would be unaware if you had taken the wrong exit, etc. but it got me where I needed to go walking around the city. In that situation, you would know if you were off course by the street names. Perhaps driving down winding roads without markers would require GPS, but google maps worked great for me.

You could use a BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER and use that map to know where you are. I did it with Google maps before getting Copilot
