Warranty
Warranty
Has anyone here had their SDE/rooted unit go faulty? If so what did you do? Did you return it to Archos? Will they still honor any warranty even if the hardware which failed bares no relevence to what SDE/rooting could cause (ie screen dies)?
Re: Warranty
It clearly states that if you install SDE then you void your warranty.
Re: Warranty
Well it isn't THAT clear since it says
ARCHOS declines all liability and responsibility for any issues resulting from the installation of this SDE firmware.
I can't see how installing custom firmware would hose your screen.
Besides my question was asking is anyone has had any experience with returning an see based device. Guessing you haven't

Re: Warranty
I've never had any issues with my Archos device at all that were not of my own making. I'd say phone them and see what they say but I highly suspect the answer will be no. If not then you will be able to inform others that they can get their rooted devices fixed if needed.
Re: Warranty
i did phone them. i did ask. the guy on the end of the line a) didnt really seem to know what i was talking about and b) kept telling me that the only reason why they wouldnt replace was if i had broke the screen physically (which it is not)
now its not as though i believe him, but find it hard to believe that archos wouldn't inform their 1st line support company (they seem to be based in Holland!?).
I'm fully aware that the chances are are that it'll not be allowed to be returned (its already gone back) just find it hard to comprehend that the amount of units i've read about on here and elsewhere none have had SDE on them. (you must be very lucky if you have not needed to return one for a warranty repair .. ever. but i guess that luck is variable depending on how many archos devices you have owned)
never mind. hopefully find out soon as archos have had the unit now for a week. and its supposed to be a total of a 2 week turnaround

Re: Warranty
I'm fairly confident that you only void your warranty with installing the SDE if you brick (or damage)your device through software.
If your device is defective, or a physical problem happens (other than screen break), the warranty should still be valid.

Re: Warranty
Well my 101 was replaced yesterday.
looks like if they cannot turn the unit on they don't bother or don't have the facilities to check for sde etc
Nothing was mentioned other that battery had failed. (Although not convinced it had)

Re: Warranty
I really don't think they look at the returns anymore than they look at the replacements they send out. Throw it in the bin, pull another one out. Hope they don't return it again.gibbon wrote:Well my 101 was replaced yesterday.looks like if they cannot turn the unit on they don't bother or don't have the facilities to check for sde etc
