70 internet tablet as a photo reviewer

this is a slight re - post as my last one was very poorly worded!!
according to the 70 internet tablets instruction manual (viewed online) to view photo's from a camera, you connect the camera via a usb host cable and they a peer on the devise,
how does this work in practice, is it quite quick,
i have a cannon dslr (compact flash memory) which if i connect directly to my laptop, the computer opens a dcim folder and i can view the photo's through that, just as if using a card reader, and reasonably instant, (not expecting live view)
is this the same with the 70 internet tablet,
i ask as i would like a relatively quick photo reviewer whilst out in the field, and the 70 works both for weight and size

Just to let you know I bought the 250GB version so I could use it to backup my pictures and view them.
Both my Canon cameras (s90 & 7D) are mounted without issues using a Nokia OTG USB cable.
Copy is fast enough, cannot remember what the transfer speed was but I can check it out for you (it may differ on the A70S though but I am guessing you are looking at the 250GB version).
You will not be able to see RAWs (though an app may be developped one day...).
I am overall pleased with my purchase. The main downside is the lack of RAM. 256MB isn't enough for multitasking.
The fact it doesn't allow 1080p playback nor 720p 50/60fps is a shame but this is because of CPU limitations.
The next gen (it seems it will be announced in June) should give an answer to both these limitations and hopefully Archos are this time going to design their devices with at least 1GB of RAM (not just the minimum that should be 512MB - 256MB is a joke really).
If you can wait until later on this year then you should get the above benefits.

also, I'm pretty sure that the 70 doesn't have a full sized USB port, just a mini. You'd have to adapt it to plug in a camera.
The 101 model has a full sized USB port, but the memory is the same as the 70.

Just use a Nokia OTG USB cable (or else) to change micro USB to full size USB.

Default picture viewing app takes ages and ages to load anything reasonably sized. Seems to just bug out and never finish loading some. Much much faster for me to look at pictures on my desktop via rdp, which is lame. Havent tested with other apps.

I use quick pic on my archos and it's way better than stock, actually I will stretch and say it works really good. I have JPEG photos taken with my canon t2i (550D) and I have also tried transferring directly from camera using the mentioned cable to my archos 250gb. It workes fairly well, lagged a bit and crashed when I tried it once (tried to transfer 3gb), but worked other times. Doesn't use it that much anymore, transfer to cpu and then to archos.

thanks for the info, it would be the 250gb version, there is now only about £20 price difference between the 2, also the nokia cable is only £4 on amazon,
not to worried about RAW the camera would save both a jpeg and raw, so should be able to view just the jpeg?
just out of interest fabp 1306, does transferring the photo's drain the battery badly, i'm normally out for a full day when i go out with my camera

Are you talking about the A70H or camera battery drain?
To be honest I have just checked I could do it. I haven't been out taking lots of pictures lately...
I will probably use this feature when on holiday and use the Archos to backup/view my pictures.
Because of the internal HDD the A70H battery life isn't as good as A70S (still good enough to download several cards I would think) but I will be backing up my pictures when back near a power socket so it should not be an issue. You can also buy an external battery power pack to increase your A70H battery life when on the move. Refer to the accessories forum.
