Wifi Issue

Post by Hellman »

I just got my Archos 101 yesterday, and I love it!

However, my college wifi network is giving me hell. To get my archos to connect to it is a nightmare. I keep telling it to connect to the network, then it scans, then it disconnects. On rare occasions it will say obtaining ip then connect. After that, no trouble. But getting it to connect is an absolute terror.

Any ideas to fix this?

Also, when I put it to sleep, and press the power button to kick it back on, it won't come on. Then I'll press again and it will flash on then go back off. If I press it again, it usually comes on. Just a minor annoyance, but I was wondering if it is fixable.

Thanks.

Your wi-fi situation is highly dependent on the version of firmware you are running. 2.0.71 people tend to be pretty happy. With the newer firmware, wi-fi is either fine or terrible, for reasons that are not entirely clear.

I don't have any opinion on your sleep behaviour. Mine is fine on 2.0.71, which really seems the happiest place to be until Archos deal with all the issues, wi-fi in particular.

Yes the 2.0.71 wa fine but with the latest firmware i seem to have lots of issues with wifi being connected but when u switch to standby then switch on even tho the units connected, still does not connect to the net straight away. I have noticed a better response now i have downloaded an app called fix my wifi from the market.

I downloaded WiFinder and it seems to have solved my problem. You can't even imagine how happy this makes me :D

You might want to have a word with your college IT people. There are loads of other issues about linking to college networks. Port scanning by the Archos being one of them.

Has anyone checked whether the order of installed firmwares might have anything to do with it? I went from 2.0.71 to 2.1.3 (the one that got yanked again) to 2.1.4 and I have yet to experience wifi or market problems.

Worth a check?

I was disconected of mine because android 2.2 tried to connect to every device in the network such as printers or pcs, and it was detected as a virus.

I talked with they and I am no banned anymore, but my tablet is very very slow when I use in the the college. It runs out of memory very fast, and I am sure that it is because it connects with too many devices.

Having the same issue with my A70. in fact work asked me to turn mine off because it was interrupting the network and not to turn it on until a solution is found. They said the device kept trying to connect opening a lot of instances. They were worried that it might have a virus. I am using 2.108fw. Hadn't had an issue before so my assumption is that it's the firmware.

i am fairly new to the world of Archos but I am pleased to say i have not had any serious problems... until today. i have a new wi-fi router (belkin Surf+ N300) and I cannot get my Archos 101 to connect. More to the point, every time I try to connect it disables the wifi connection altogether and then caused a conflict on my pc. when the archos is not switched on I have a great connection on my PC, Ipod touch, android phone and a nokia phone. The signal and speed is fantastic. Switch on the archos and it stops. It is running on channel 1. any suggestions?

I cannot explain why but it is workihg fine now. I didn't do anything.

Can you post your wireless settings? Why channel 1? Why not Auto?

I have had 10.1 for a while now and I love it. The only problem I have is every time it goes to sleep wifi gets disconnected. In other words, every time I switch it on, I have to go to settings and reconnect. This is annoying.

My device is up-to-date with firmware updates.

Thanks....
