Best ways to install the Google Marketplace

Well, there was a rumor that your google id can fail to synch when android is in a memory crunch. I think there can be other transient problems as well, where waiting may be better than tweaking then forgetting options and such.

Why do you call something as important as allowing people to get extra apps "rubbish" If you do not understand something that does not mean it's rubbish.
I've used Arctools. It's not different from Kenyu's Market App. You still need the fix/unfix rubbish to get all the apps.

I dare you to show me Flash 10.01 after you've fixed the the Arctools version of the Market.....You won't find it....and the only way to find it is to the the rubbish unfix. And it's not only Flash 10.01 There are other apps which you will loose after doing the fix; TVU player is one of them.
I also dare you to show me google maps, zeam launcher, Launcher pro in the Market without the fix before the fix, after you've done a fresh install on Archtools.

Wether you use Arctools or the gAppsInstaller...you will need the rubbish fix/unfix.

Where exactly do I access the Google marketplace app after installing the .apk and rebooting .. I recall on the previous Archos it would come up initially after restarting automatically...

For absolutely NO reason at all, I can no longer download ANYTHING from the Google Marketplace. I'm using an Archos 101 with the 2.0.71 firmware (the latest version gives me wifi problems due to my Wireless N router), and I'm using version 5.1 of the Google Marketplace apk (previous versions would hang on "starting download" whenever I started to download any apps). Up until a few days ago, it was working perfectly for me. Now, for no reason at all, whenever I go to download anything, it does the download for perhaps a few seconds, then it just disappears. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, doing the Marketplace hack, and nothing works. Absolutly nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions that don't consist in reseting my Archos device?

No idea, but transient problems do come and go. And ver 5.1 hack was replaced with v5-final for specific reasons which I can't remember.

So you HAD 2.1.04 and went back to 2.0.71. This may be due to the way the Archos changed its memory allocation in 2.1.02/3/4 to accomodate the Swap file. I had exactly this problem, and solved it by going to the Recovery Menu, reformatting the whole system, re-installing the 2.0.712 firmware (twice), then reinstalling the apps.

You may be able to achieve the same effect by using one of the other re-initialisation options, I don't know. It seems to be a feature of going from a FW version with Swap Space, to a version with no Swap Space. It seems that the Swap Space uses the previous Cache area, needed for downloading, and doesn't give it back when you go back to an earlier FW.

Also uninstall APPS lib, reinstall the market, do the fix and see if that works. When I reverted, appslib definitely broke my market...i even reformatted just to start over...installed the Market and did the fix first, then appslib...both work now....

If we end up having to reformat, then install the market again, or are installing the Market for the first time, we could do with a list of which apps need the Market to be unfixed, and which need the fix.

Then, when doing a rebuild, it would be good to be able to get all our "unfixed" apps first, before applying the fix.

Any others think this would be useful?

Personally Sweetypie, I've done the fix and unfix literally more 30 times without any issues. I respect anybody opinion not willing to try the unfix rootine. They just have to deal with the missing apps or refomat to get the other apps. Now your wiki suggestion is great and I've thought about it. But the problem is there hundreds of thousands apps and literally tedious doing a compare. Also your results only depend on your search key. Don't know I when but if I get sometime I will try to post as many apps I can which missing in one state from the other. This may also give us a clue as to what going on behind the scenes in google Market pushing it to hide some apps

re: the "starting download" issue.

For me this was a firewall issue which I was eventually able to fix by forwarding port 5228. I still had to do the "fix" a couple of times before seeing all the apps I was after though.

Defaulted a fake Market on my tablet, generally apps are ok, but I still want to install the official one.

knewkid, can you supply a link or reference to having to 'port forward' 5228 (I assume TCP?)

If this is true its a bit stupid to expect people to create static NAT port mappings, which of course implies the android host has to have a static IP.... you would have thought android was designed with the expectation that many clients would be behind NAT and hence use the client to initiate the conversation.

Now I for one have the 'starting download' issue, I just live with it since after a few minutes it always goes through, but I've been at other locations w/ your standard home router doing PAT type setup, they definitely am not port forwarding 5228 to my LAN IP.

This includes only the Market, Calendar, Talk, GenieWidget and "required gSync" files. Any apps that are in the Froyo Market are NOT included. Honestly, this is better as it makes a smaller appInstaller package and its more compatible.

You can download the following from the Market -- Gmail, VoiceSearch, YouTube and Maps(Navigation)

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

I see less apps (in the market home screen) after the fix then before, when I startup the market. I use Market v3.0.26 installed with Arctools (clean install) on Android 2.2.1 (A43IT fw 2.4.32)

Strange. I wanted to delete this market. I could only uninstall "Market updates " which I did.
After deletion I checked the version of the market which was all of a sudden 3.4.4 which showed all? apps, at least more to start with.
