Good suggestion but does not explain why I have no problems at home 9 character password on WPA and big problems when roaming on open (no password) networks....

To paraphrase Will Rogers "All I know is what two different Archos tech support reps told me on the telephone". I even said to them, "you give a link to the forum on your support page and you don't monitor it?". They both replied "yes". It didn't sound right to me. The first rep, a woman, told me to do a full reset. Her reassurance was "that's what the guys in the warehouse" told her to say.

Hopefully someone at Archos is reading this thread and taking notes. An acknowledgment of that fact would be reassuring.
Well then, our blessings to the developers since they are the ones really doing the work.
I use a forum for the software we use with our radio station... The manufacturer has a link to the forum and hosts the forum on its servers, but they do not guarantee support to any users on that forum. It is set up for the users to help the other users, and when they have time away from the paid support requests they do get on there and answer questions and solve problems. But it is not priority and even the worthless spam sometimes takes weeks to get cleaned out.
In order to use a forum for support you really need one or two people that can be dedicated to that task, especially with a brand new product that is evolving as fast as these gen 8 devices seem to be evolving. I have a strange feeling that at some point someone said "forget 2.2 and any fixes, get 2.3 or 3.0 ready and we'll fix everything in that update". Bug fixes can take the same amount of time (or more) as getting the newer version ready, which would we all rather have? Since things are mostly working for most of us, I think my vote goes to 2.3 or 3.0. That said my 43 is basically an audio player much like my old Jukebox was an audio player. I have found that it is easier to use to check and see if work is closed or delayed in the morning, but that is about it since I don't really travel where I might need a lighter weight device with web browser.
The only other thing that I'm happy about is now I have an Android device that I can use for testing our radio stream and getting other people connected to it. We have people with iPhones in the department and now a few people with Android devices, and finally tracked down someone with a Blackberry (still looking for that elusive Nokia user). Again, my needs are indeed rather simple so fairly easy to please.
Again I hope the developers take the time to at least read through threads like this so they know which way we want them to go, too bad support can't get the time needed to read through here once in a while, maybe someone higher up at Archos should find a way to make it happen. Even if they don't post they can be aware of potential problems that they can then have engineering check and validate, and then when people do call or email they will know about the issue even if there isn't a fix yet. Half the time that is enough for people to find a small amount of patience, just knowing it has been reported and work is being done to solve it.
I upgraded to 2.1.04, added the Market Place hack v5, applied the Market Fix twice, as suggested. Things seemed to be fine. I went to install Flash from the Marketplace and could not find it. I applied the Market Fix once more. The reboot issue came back. I went back to 71.
I really like my Archos 70, 8 gigs and will keep monitoring this site for a FW update as stable as 71.
First of all, it shows 2.1.4 not 2.1.04.
Second, I didnt notice any kind of improvements in anything (screen sensitivity comes to mind). What I did notice though is that flash now is so slow now that I cant browse pages with it with any comfort, youtube videos are not videos anymore but slideshows anpd the browser crashes a bit too often for my taste. Ill see if I can downgrade my firmware to older version. Oh and it seems like battery is discharging faster now.
I did update to fw 2.1.03, my A101(16gb) was starting slow. Then i updated to 2.1.04, and Android reset, but it isn't improvement. The device is slow and touch-screen is not responsive. I think i will go back to previous fw 2.0.71.
My live wallpapers change on me. Anybody else have that problem?
It seems it doesn't really matter which one I install or set (third-party from the Market or included in the OS), in a few hours it will knock that one out and go to the default "grass" live wallpaper.
I updated to firmware 2.1.4 and noticed that the Video player no longer "sees" the VIDEO_TS.IFO file that is within folders that contain DVD file structure. This is the DVD play-list or table of contents file, so now you have to manually select (guess) which .VOB file to play. Very annoying.
EDIT: I found the "Player Settings" control that can be changed from "Single" to "Folder" which fixed this problem.
Is there documentation on these video player features somewhere? Why do the Subtitles always come on now. Can I change that preference?

I have A70 and A43, both have problem with BT tethering with my phone. Connection is okay but get
an error message after about 10 to 15 minutes of connection. "The application Settings
(process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly.Please try again). Force close.
Then the icon for the tethering at the power control widget grayed out but it is still connected.
But I can't disconnect unless I disconnect the BT and can't reconnect again afterward until I reboot.
Anyone has the same problem?

Same problem with my Arcos 70 Internet Tablet 250GB. I'm thinking of reformatting the tablet, and trying to install the older Firmware .... Which Archos says can't be done.
i would definitely try reformatting and installing 2.0.71 via the recovery menu before wasting time sending the device back. It wil take you 20-30 minutes to find out if it works but it could save you weeks of waiting. Lots of people had wifi problems develop since this FW so theres a good chance it might work.
I certainly hope those people who are having WiFi issues are trying things like rebooting their wireless router and verifying that it works flawlessly with other WiFi devices.
Oh yes! I have rebooted my router many times. Have also rebooted the modem. I know the proper method for rebooting both. Have called Charter Tech Support, D-Links Tech Support, Apple Tech Support and Archos Tech Support numerous times.
Our Internet connection is just fine on my desktop (MacPro 2.93GHz) and my son's HP desktop.
Archos says my Archos 70 IT 250GB is defective and to send it back.
Archos Tech Support did help me out with a few tweaks, but nothing helped.
D-Links has helped me to set up my router. I've tried tweaking the router settings, but still cannot restore a sold WiFi connection.
Looks like the only choices I have at this point:
1) send the unit back
2) reformat
3) wait for a Firmware fix
well if it connects at least a few minutes i would guess at more of a SOFTware issue than a HARDware one. I would really suggest a reformat and a different FW as you have nothing to lose.
