Best ways to install the Google Marketplace

Sometimes installed apps are updated automatically (for example, flash update last week). Now, if you repeat the market fix after installing your apps, will this behaviour still exist or will it forget about all installed apps? I have seen in an earlier install of mine that the market app cannot list the installed apps anymore after a market fix, so I expect the auto-update to disappear also after a fix.

I believe the auto update is set by a tick box on the page where you download it. You can go back later to "myapps" page in market and see if the box is checked at any time.

Is it necessary to periodically do a new "market fix" in order to find the lastest apps?

I was unable to find either AVG or Lookout in the market, but did find AVG at AppLib.

Viking, I'm quite sure that after running a market fix the "myapps" screen of the Market app shows an empty list of applications. Also what happens on my Archos 70 is that I get notifications for available updates of apps for which I have not selected the auto-update tick box in the Market app. So apparantly this uses a different mechanism, and possibly that means that you still get notifications even after a market fix .... Has anybody experienced this?

can someone please post the download link for latest gApp4Archos? I installed gApp4Archos2 couple of months ago.

The original reason for this thread was to avoid blind use of the old gApp4Archos approach by new users. People were being lured in by an old sticky thread about it which I have unstickied, although it can still be found. It was a wonderful help in it's time (and could be in the future), but I think xda (and possibly arctools) has explicitly evolved to a higher level.

It would be fair for someone to present an informed argument that gApp4 is somehow among the best. Or it would be fair for you to stick with it to avoid transition involving an android reset. But for now I think it is widely agreed that the kenyu73 xda approach saves problems that keep popping up from gApp4 users in this forum.

Well, I find it could be worth mentionning ArcTools too, as few posters (BockBock,yumms) in this thread did.
It's does pretty much the same as gAppsInstaller5, offering a few more features (application removal, media library index optimizer) and is quite easy to install thru Appslib. It's quite documented and updated too.

What should I do if when i follow the steps listed above, when i boot my device i get a location agreement prompt and then the market crashes and wont open?

I'm having the same problem. Anyone find a fix?

I had the older gApps4Archos2 installed, but wanted the most recent Market (thought I might be able to use the web-based Market if I had the most recent version on my tablet). I didn't uninstall apps before I followed these instructions. Could this be the cause of the crash?

I tried uninstalling them afterwards using gApps4Archos2 (which failed), and then tried uninstalling the apps using gAppsInstaller. It said it worked, so I rebooted, ran gAppsInstaller again, and Market still won't work. Neither will GMail. Google Voice starts up, but gives me an error about my username and password being wrong.

So, I went into "Manage Applications" and "Google Services Framework" doesn't show up at all. Why would that not be there?

I'll keep investigating, but if anyone has an idea, please tell me. If all else fails, I may just reset my Archos, and then reinstall everything.

I saw some thread where someone described a way of half-doing the market fix to find some stuff, then finishing the market fix to find the rest, but I didn't understand it.

OK, it looks like the market fix can hide a few apps as well as show new ones. Here I paste a suggested way to switch the market fix off and back on, although I haven't tested it and am not recommending it except for experimentation.

..Once you've done the Market fix you do not need to reinstall Market to go back to state before applying the fix. Once you do the Market fix you will gain access to few more apps but many apps requiring froyo will no longer show up anymore: that's the case of apps like TVU, Flash 10, .... (there must be many more). I suspect the market fix makes the device and generic device but not a froyo one.
To go back an forth between the fix and the original state all you need is to do this;
go to Settings --- Applications --Manage Applications ---Running -- Market ---Clear Cache ----Clear Data --Force Stop--Relaunch Market ---Accept Terms and Conditions ---
Voila. and you're back to the original State where you can find flash 10 & other froyo only apps.
If you do the the fix...you loose flash ..but gaine other apps...the fix skip the Clear Data steps ...and the Clear Data step will undo the fix. THe fix requires reboot..To undo it you do not need to reboot and do not need to stop googleframework.

This came up as a way to force market.android.com on the web to recognize your archos device type. I find I don't need this or any other of the special swizzles for gmarket on the web to recognize my type of archos once I log on (and drive downloads from pc). We probably shouldn't troubleshoot the web version of gmarket in this thread because it is a seperate mysterious issue, and you still need this marketplace installed and open on your device to download even from the web.

Ok, this has been killing me.
I have successfully loaded Kenyu73's market and can browse the market just fine.
When I click on install, my Archos 101 stays in this never ending "downloading" state.
I have seen others discuss this problem before, but have not seen anyone say they found the problem / solution.
The Archos 101 is running the latest firmware 2.1.4.

Anybody know what is going on?

That doesn't sound like a market installation problem, so if it continues to be more than a transient problem I suggest you open up a new topic.

P.S. I'm disappointed that the arctools advocates don't explicitly post here their advantages or disadvantages. I can't speak for it myself because last I checked it seemed to use a slightly earlier version 5.0 or 5.1 which kenyu73 had to replace. I have NO doubt it was updated, and some say it will continue to advance past v5-final. But who says, and how does it work? Only curious for a brief tutorial, not to plunge in the lengthy existing threads.

To actually remove Market Hacks correctly without performing a full re-init of the device, you have to first go and remove it from Applications to remove any Market updates that have been installed BEFORE you use the Hack install app to remove files.

I had this problem when changing from kenyu's to Arctools, I could not install Arctools as kenyu's uninstall only removed his files, not the update, confusing everything.

Hi, I'm a compleet new Archos 101 user.
After ordering the Archos directly from the Archos site I spend a lot of time reading posts on ArchosFans.com and I know now what app I want to install and that Ihad to get on the Market to get them.
I recieved my 101 with froyo installed at the same day 2.01.2 thit come out.
I did not install that version after reading al the foulds that were posted here.
I am glad I waited until the last update.
Now I have installed that one OTA with no problems at all.
After that I installed Arctools from the Arctools site, not from Addlibs, because the one on Addlibs is not up to date as Arctools reports on there site. With the instructions and watching their video it was easy to instal. Maybee too, because I did not install any other application before.
Everything is werking as I hoped.
I can go the the market, had no faillures, no craches.

For the Generic user I thoroughly recommend Arctools on Appslib as a Market installer.

All other Market installers are 'One Off' unless you keep track of the developers site/thread.

Arctools automatically informs you of an update just as any other app would do, thereby keeping you on track.

I use it, it works well, and online Market works fine without any of this unesessary Fix/Unfix rubbish.

Something funny is going on with the Android Market v5 final hack for Archos.

I recently got two identical Archos 70 250GB units. One for my son and one for myself. I have found in both cases not all the Market Apps show up at the same time. This only becomes apparent if one is familiar with the market (I have an HTC desire).

Once I could not find the Opera browsers (there should be two), reset the market and there they were. wanted Rocket Bunnies, had to reset again and found it, but the Opera browsers had gone. Checked and it was the same with my son's unit. I have had to reset 4 times since I got the unit 5 days ago just to find all the apps I had on my Desire.

Something is not right. I am happy to concede that it is my error, but my son has exactly the same problem.

Can the ArchosApp be installed in tandem?

I find ArcTools works really well. You can get it from the AppsLib Market.

I fully agree; for a layman in Android it is streight forward; only important: create really a new account with Google; forget about the accounts you have already with them; and you need to create a gmail address; I did it but I will never use it since I have my own adresses.
But market works fine now.
It seems at present to be easier than over the web market which is now open. There I did not succeed since the system did not recognise my Archos 70 IT.

Thanks all. I did a complete reset each time so I know it was not a problem with loading on top of...
So, before I threw in the towel on my way to Walmart to pick up an IPad, I decided I would stop off at the local panera and try to download from the market using their wi-fi... It worked!!

Now I just need someone to tell me why Panera's wi-fi worked when mine did not. Only for Market. I had no problems downloading on my wi-fi from AppsLib... I read somewhere about problems with WEP so I tried unecrypted but that didn't work...
