Very same thing has happened to me, not impressed.zonkul wrote:Installed 2.1.4 and I have an issue. On 2.1.3 I had no problems with watching movies in avi, but now i get an info that i need to purchase a plug-in that costs 15 $ in order to watch those movies! It says something about AC3 codec. It seems strange to me since I watched the same exact movie yesterday, didnt finish and after the upgrade I wanted to finish watching and I cant..
Can any of You guys give a solution to this problem besides purchasing that plugin?

Instead of complaining here, you should call Archos support. As they don't monitor this forum the only way that they will know of problems is when you call them. Please note that the "Toll-free" number listed on their web site is NOT toll free. I used Gmail phone to call them. All you need is a Skype USB headset which goes for around $10.00. You access the phone on the left side of the Gmail home page. You can call anywhere in the US for free.

You can just use a 3rd party video player, there are several in the market that play AC3 codes. Too bad the soft buttons don't auto hide though.

[bug report]
On my Archos 32 : I must kill all apps using the standard task manager before going into deep sleep.
Without killing apps, the green light stay and battery drop very quickly.
Thanks

Duplicate Shortcuts ...
I just updated to 2.1.04 several days ago. Not sure if this issue is because of the update, but it's never happened before until today. I was searching on Market for video players and downloading some apps to try out.
When I opened up one the folders on my desktop, I noticed there were duplicates for each of my shortcuts! I found duplicates for all of my shortcuts in the other folders! And some shortcuts had three duplicates, making four copies of the shortcuts !!!
Has anyone else seen this issue ..... ????

After the 2.1.04 update, I'm having issues with USB. Sometimes when I connect the USB cable, my Archos does not show up on the desktop of my MacPro. I have to reboot the Archos, then it will mount.

Another bug .... This really sucks ....
I just opened the folders on my desktop where I keep my shortcuts. All of my shortcuts are gone ... !!! Every single one of my shorcuts is gone, disappeared .... Where did they go ... .???
Anyone else having this issue too ... ????
Looks like more bugs with this latest update ....
Now I have to create shortcuts all over again, and I just spent a lot of time going through all the apps, creating shortcuts ....

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 released - report bugs here
I finally received a reply from Archos tech support. They said that I should try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. If that doesn't solve the problem, I should contact the developer.
It seems strange that something that worked fine before the upgrade doesn't work after.
I suggested that they monitor this forum (especially since they link to it from their support page). I also suggested that they try to replicate some of the problems discussed here in their "lab" before they dismiss them out of hand.
I have finished the rollback to 71. "N" no longer works, YouTube videos don't play smoothly, but I have my Vulkano, Flixter trailers and Shoutcast audio back. I'll settle for it.
I had been contemplating the purchase of an A70, but after this "fiasco", I'm leaning more towards a Droid X.

Archos 101 16gb
updated to 2.1.04 from 2.1.03
Very pleased!
The 2 issues I had are resolved:
* Dolphin forced closed on every download
* Green LED power indicator stopped flashing when completely charged.
Fortunately, I have had no other issues with this unit and I am satisfied that Archos is paying attention to the boards and fixing many of the most prevalent issues that arise. And, they do so promptly. I wish they would vett the firware releases better prior to releasing to the general public...someone on this board suggested using members of this user community; that makes sense to me. I believe improved communications would be good for both Archos and their user community as well.
In any event, good luck to all Archos owners with this latest firmware release.

Re: Firmware 2.1.04 released - report bugs here
I finally got on 2.1.4 and all my video files disappeared! Both on the stock video folder and on the sdcard. The sdcard ones only were recently moved from a .nomedia folder to a new one without, but stock ones never had .nomedia. No other types of media appear to have been deleted.
EDiT> All my pictures were deleted from the stock pictures folder as well. Pictures on physical sdcard with .nomedia stayed there.
This is very inconvenient because some cannot be identified or reasonably retrieved. Maybe some other app is responsible, but I haven't had any files disappear before.
EDIT2> I forced a total media scan just before firmware upgrade - maybe happened then.

Thanks for the tips Farsquidge. I, too, removed my SD card when I updated to 2.1.03 and .04 after losing files on the 2.1.02 update.

Yep - that's the third person reporting this now - the video deletion has happened to me and at least one other person. In my case it is reproducible afer forcing a full media update - happened twice. On the other hand, I haven't lost any photos, so not sure what's happening there.viking wrote:I finally got on 2.1.4 and all my video files disappeared! I emailed Archos tech support earlier in the week about the video deletion, haven't heard back from them yet.
In my case I have an Archos 70 250Gb, so I don't have an SD card, the video files were on the hard disk.

Media file deletion is a very serious bug. Hopefully Archos will learn the problem and fix it in the next FW.
