Since the Gen 8s have the same chipset as the 3630, you should be good to go
Another bonus is a litmus test for 256mb ram: Larger games like Metal Slug 3 (and up) as well as King of Fighter 99 (and up) all dump over 150mb to the ram, so if those games play smooth and glitch free, this could suggest the 256mb ram is not really constraint for the device. SNK vs Capcom and Garou- Mark of the Wolves are biggies too.
TigerMAME facts:
1. Plays Capcom CPS1, CPS2 and Neo Geo game rom sets. No other games will work, but that is a bunch of classics.
2. Need to make sure the neogeo.zip is in the same directory as your zipped roms (neogeo.zip is the bios for neo games)
3. It is free, with game unobtrusive ads (still wish a paid version was available).

ONE CAVEAT: Have not tested on Android 2.1, so if every game does not play smooth as butter with sound, it is either Android 2.1, or the 256mb ram (if larger games are not smooth) causing slowdowns or games not to work. Plays smooth as butter on the Droid X with 2.2. Same chippy as the Gen 8s, but 512mb ram.
