Thanks I'll try it. My charger is at work till tomorrow. I don't pay the extra thirty dollar hot spot fee does that matter?

You can get around the thirty dollars, but only if you root the system and run an application to make it work. What the application does is convert the Web stuff you get for "free" into what the hotspot requires / expect to come from Sprint.

Can someone from outside of US confirms that you can only have free apps available on your market? I can not even see kindle is available for download in my market.

Ok Thanks, My phone isn't rooted and I don't know anything about doing that. So I guess I won't be able to tether but thanks for telling me. Maybe one of these days I'll root. But my phone is set up good now and I hate to have to redo it.

Rose.... What type of phone do you have. Z4root permanent (not temp) option works on alot of phones- It worked on my Samsung Galaxy.
However on my Galaxy I upgraded to 2.2 and it has the ability to create a wifi hotspot which my archos has not problem connecting to.

Most rooting options for phones are pretty easy to do- search XDA for your phone. Most phones have one click rooting methods. I used one of these before i upgraded to 2.2 on my Samsung but after the upgrade i rerooted with z4root permanant.

Good luck.

I have the EVO. I know XDA had stuff on rooting. I'm a member there but someone said if I rooted I would have to start over like a new phone and lose everything and I didn't want to do that. But I would like the Sprint bloatware off the phone cause I'm low on space now.. If I could just install an apk file and then it would be rooted that would be easy. You mentioned one click options I'll have to check into it. My EVO has 2.2 already. Thanks!

Sorry for the newbie question, but I just got my Archos 70. What file should I download for market when I update to Android 2.2? I read the one in the OP isn't the best version to download...?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks alot to yourself and everyone involved in this, worked a treat! I didn't even need to use the fix weirdly enough, but all apps are there and I've downloaded a few and they're working grand

You're welcome.

Interesting! How do you know all the apps are there? Do you know all the apps on the Market?

The current recommendation, for those who don't know all apps on the Market, is to do the fix twice.

Ah, the apps in the video on how to do the fix were already in my store, does it vary from person to person what apps are missing? I'll try the fix now just to be safe. Thanks again for the help

The first thing I did / do, with all rebuilds, is to install ADW.Launcher to speed up the rest of the setup.

When I searched the Market after the first fix I got 202 hits - no ADW.Launcher, just ADW themes. Did the fix again, got 208 hits - incl several versions of the launcher itself.

He looked for what occurred to him to look for. I looked for what I wanted. I don't think there's a definitive list of items which must appear in order to prove it has everything.

It's usually best just to follow these "hack-type" instructions to the letter. Don't leave anything out.

Just received my Archos 101 16GB last night, charged it this morning, played with it a bit,
then installed this as my first install. Installation, setup, etc., worked like a charm and I
now have the Google MarketPlace installed and running. :) Thanks for making this available! =D>

Edit: I did install the firmware update before doing anything else. It's now at 2.0.71,
Android 2.2.1

@Zenstrive. I am having the same issue - I can only see free apps in the market - and I live in Costa Rica (definitely a 3rd world country). I have tried everything, market fix multiple times, reinstalling v5-final and nothing seems to work. Even some free apps (like Kindle and Youtube) do not show up in my market. Apparently, there is a very limited list of countries that paid apps are available in (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Market for a list).

All is not lost, however. The link above provides some third party alternatives to the market besides Appslib. As a last (and dishonest alternative) you might try www.freewarelovers.com.

I wish there were some way around this. When I get my hands around Android a bit more I may try a VPN like I use on my Windows PC to stream Hulu and other services that are blocked outside the US. Let me know if you come up with anything.
