Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
Curious if anyone has done this yet. Tried to install chat software From Gmail for Google Talk but was unsuccessful. Seems silly to have a front facing camera if you can't even use it.
Re: Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
The problem lies with software developers, especially keeping up with never-ending Android updates that Google pops out. I'm now using SipDroid since it works after the addition of "Silent" mode in the latest FW update. SipDroid is made to be easily compatible with pbxes.com (you can use other traditional SIP providers too). If you have a paid pbxes.com account (I don't, I use a free account) you can use video chat.
Oovoo mobile has gotten some early good reviews from tech sites; however, it's only released versions for 3 Android phones at present--the HTC Evo, the Samsung Epic and the Samsung Galaxy S (I suspect some of the criticisms aimed at this platform on the market is due to people with other phones downloading the apk file). Perhaps the version for the Droid X, which is listed as coming soon on their supported device page, will work well on the Archos. (The Droid X flash player is working very smoothly for most of us.) Here's a video showing this application running on the Samsung Galaxy S. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11DborXUEvU

Re: Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
The Droid X one is a stand alone player, correct? Is it the one that comes preinstalled on these? I installed Adobe v10.1 & embedded video is super choppy & unwatchable which isn't what I expected from a device w/as good or better stats than my year-old Droid.mke73 wrote:The problem lies with software developers, especially keeping up with never-ending Android updates that Google pops out. Re: Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
I'm not experiencing any choppiness with the Droid X flash player. Some are reporting issues and I'm beginning to wonder if it's a bandwidth issue since some of us aren't experiencing problems with the Droid X flash player. Have you checked to see what speed your WIFI connection is running at? I've got an N router, but I seem to be one of those who is running at G speeds. That said, my flash player runs very smooth.
Re: Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
Again, what is the Droid X player? Is it the one that comes preinstalled on the device or something else? The player that came installed works fine for me. After I upgraded the firmware to the latest I installed the Adobe Flash v10.1 plug in like have on my other Android devices. Now it will play Flash videos imbedded in the browser but it's VERY choppy. My Droid for instance doesn't have a problem playing imbedded videos in the browser w/this same setup.mke73 wrote:I'm not experiencing any choppiness with the Droid X flash player. Re: Is anyone doing video chat yet & w/what app?
The Droid X flash player is optimized for the Droid X hardware, which is similar to the gen8 tablets. It plays back flash video much more smoothly than the generic flash player that you can download from Market. You can find a link to it in this thread http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.p ... 72#p284672 (the direct link to download is in the 7th post on the first page).

Word of advice. Don't download the new yahoo plugin. The old Yahoo Video plugin worked, but since updating to the new one my video chat no longer works on YMfrank wrote:Yahoo messenger video chat works surprisingly well on my A70.

What version of Yahoo video plug-in are you using that works? I wonder where I could download it....
I've tried just about everything....google talk/voice, ooVoo, sipdroid, fring and yahoo....no voice with video that works....

Latest version of yahoo messenger in market works nicely for me
Older version only seemed to want to do video chat in portrait orientation new one looks ok and works in landscape only wish video was a little higher quality.

Looks like Android OS v3.0 (aka Gingerbread) will address this issue. I only hope we get it sooner than later.
