External battery packs

I have an A5A, A70S, and a 16G A101. Plus some 5V accessories like: BT-359 GPS Receiver and Virgin Mobiles' MiFi2200. I found this External Battery Pack: The New Trent IMP1000 with 11Ah at Amazon USA for $80:

It includes tips to handle all of my Archos Android tablets and my accessories. New Trent's web site caters to iPhone/iPad owners saying it will extend an iPad 3G from 9 hours to 19 hours.

Amazon shows a 4+ star rating. I'm quite happy with it so far.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out. I'm hoping it will recharge and run the unit faster than the New Trent IMP-500 I reported on earlier. Yeah, it works but is real slow compared to how it recharges an active HTC EVO 4G.

I have the IMP-500 and it also seems to work with the A70. Yet, it recharges the unit very slowly (especially when you're using the unit at the same time). It recharges my HTC EVO 4G real quick even when using it at the same time as the recharge.

What has your experience been with the IMP-1000 and how quickly it recharges an A70 - especially when you're also using it at the same time?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only New Trent users here.

My IMP1000 came in a few days ago. I tested it briefly on my A70 and A101: just to see if the charge icons would come on. They did. The output of the IMP1000 is 5V, 1A. I'll be testing over the next few weeks and report back.

I chose the IMP1000 balancing weight, volume, capacity, and price - time will tell if it was a good choice.

I understand. I'm sure you'll love your IMP-1000! We have two IMP-500 in the family and love them both.

At first I was using an IMP-880 and exchanged it out for an IMP-500. The reason was that the IMP-880 firmware doesn't work with the HTC EVO. It would turn itself off before the HTC EVO was completely charged. The guys at NewTrent agreed it was a software error in the device and would fix it, in the meantime they exchanged it for an IMP-500 and the price difference.

The IMP-1000 sounds nice. I might want one to say charge the devices I carry (e.g. HTC EVO, PSP-3000, and A70) when out of the house.

The IMP-500 is 5V 600mAh. I wonder what amp rating the A70 8GB and A70 250GB require.

The wall charger which Archos provides is 5V-2A. The IMP1000 outputs 5V-1A. With the IMP1000 I charged both my A70S and 16G A101 today from about 85% to full charge. The A70S took over 1H 10M to charge while not being used. The A101 took around two hours while being used. The IMP1000 still showed 3 LED lights afterward. Also the IMP1000 automatically turned off once before the LEDs on my Gen8s flashed.

Neither the IMP-500 nor the IMP-880 come with the necessary connector. I got mine working by using the power connector sold by MP3Technology.com for the A70 and A101. Please note: the IMP-500 isn't powerful enough to charge and run the unit at the same time (very quickly).

Yea its spam but my brother-in-law has a solar device.. Its ok but i like battery backup... Its a real pain trying to charge you phone while at dinner and half hanging out the window so the solar panels get enough light..

Using solar panels are very effective.. Even I have got solar panels on my home roof and battery backup is not a problem now..
