easy market install on Froyo Firmwares: the apk way!

Hello dear archos fans.

I have my device now for a few weeks, and have some problems.

The youtube app from the hack is not working, it flash up and disappears.

I read about people have flash from the marked but I can not find it!!!! Where is IT

Do anybody now when the official flash will be supported.

Sorry for my bad English, I do my best.

It may be the best to wait for a new firmware update.
For this moment I'm disappointed in the device.

Solutions to your problem have been posted in other threads in the forum. Searching for each individually would have turned them up.

You probably installed gApps4Archos2.apk instead of gAppsInstaller_v4. gApps4Archos2 has a broken YouTube app. You can find the solution here: http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.p ... pk#p295613 , but you may be better off reseting your system and putting gAppsInstaller_v4 as many people report there system is more stable and crashes less with that it did with gApps4Archos2 installed.

I read about people have flash from the marked but I can not find it!!!! Where is IT

No one on here is going to be able to tell you when the Archos Flash will be released because that is currently in the hands of Adobe. Until Adobe approves it Archos will not put it in their patch. If you really want the inferior market version do a search for Market fix on the forum, and you'll find how to make it show up in the Google Market.

So I'm getting the Archos 101 16 gig next week. I was also told to get gapps4archosv_4.apk the 4.apk and not the 2.apk Is this the new marketplace? I'll have to read through this whole thread for the link. I just skipped to the last page to post. But I can't wait to get my Archos. I have an old Archos 605 from way back.. Now once I get 2.2 the new firmware that just came out someone said after that reset your Archos back to factory then install market is that true? But they also said install 2 other thinks which i don't want CPU and something else. But I think those 2 files were being used before this update and it was showing 800 and not the full 1ghz. I just want make sure I do everything right when I get it. But once I get the update there wont be anything on my Archos and I think this person was saying reset your Archos if your getting the marketplace plus these other two things but I want to know if I'm just getting marketplace only do I still do it? Thanks, I have alot of reading to do. Came back here a couple weeks ago to read about the 70 and 101 and hadn't been here since back in the day when I had my little 605-160gig with a kickstand.

I have been meaning to finish these notes, but with the arrival of my 250 GB, I'm not sure when I'll get back to them. Instead of letting them disappear in the grand electronic wasteland of my desktop, I thought I'd put them here to waste away, too (after it might help someone).

The instructions include some useful information, such as how to reinstall the Archos files after formatting your drive (e.g. video, music, third party applications, etc).

Again these aren't complete and for that I apologize.

I'm following the instructions found at the XDA-Developers.com website to
install the Google Android Marketplace after having installed other
Marketplaces. This installation will require cleaning out the Archos system
of the old system. The easiest and safest method is to format the system
and install everything clean, including the firmware.

In preperation of this installation, I backed up onto my micro SDHC 16 GB
card (class 10) the data files and APK from the Archos 70 IT internal
SD card. Additionally, I backed up and placed on the same card the APK
files from the non-protected applictions on my HTC EVO 4G, in case I need
to slide load any of those applications before I get the Google Marketplace
fully up and running.

Before continuing with this blog, you should quickly review what we're going
to do by reading the first entry in the three threads listed directly below.

I decided to download and place on both my Windows hard drive and on my micro SDHC
16 GB card the files necessary to complete this task, as well as optional files.
These files and location are:

Of the three above, we'll be using the APK and optional applications. I placed
these files on my Windows system and on the micro SDHC 16 GB card used by the
Archos 70.

This blog assumes the device has previously installed Google Andorid Marketplace
on it along with other applications. Additionally, the device is an Archos 70
Internet Tablet 8 GB. These instructions should work for other Archos 8th generation
tablets.

In order to change to the Google Marketplace
installer provided by kenyu73 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2404799)
we'll need to clean the machine completely (format it with a firmware reinstallation).

As I want the option to install the Archos third party applications, I'm going to
start with the instructions found in the "How to 'reformat' and 'reinstall' firmware
from scratch" (# 3 above). (NOTE: We'll be performing additional instructions later
on not included in #3, when rebuilding the contents of internal SD card.)

As stated above I already downlaoded the files and the tablet is off. The
micro SDHC card is NOT in the tablet, at this point in time. The steps I'm
following are:

1) Step-up: Turn off your tablet, unplug the power cord so the unit is running
on batteries, and plug the USB cable into both tablet and the desktop that
has the AOS file.

2) Restart the tablet in a format / install mode by pressing and holding the
volume down and power on button together at the same time, until the
Archos splash screen appears. This took about 3 to 4 second to occur.

3) After about 5 seconds another screen appeared with the title: "Archos A70S Recovery"
asking if I would like to recover my system? The options are: Update Firmware,
Repair System, and Format System.

4) At this point I again connect the tablet to external power.

5) Using the volume buttons, select the "Format System" and to start use the power
button.

6) Another screen will appear asking you if you want to format the disk? The
options are Reset Android, Reset Media Storage, Reset Android & Storage, and
Reformat Device. I choose the "Reformat Device" option again by using the
volume keys to select and power button to execute.

7) Another screen will appear asking if you want to format all devices. It reminds
you this action will completely erase the device. You will need to perform a full
and manual reinstallation of its operating system, using an AOS file available
from the Archos website. Your choice are No, and I Understand. I choose "I
Understand" again by using the volume keys and power button to select and execute.

8) During the next 40 second you'll see multiple screens showing the activity and
status of the system. Once these finish, you'll have a screen called "Recovery."
It will say USB Connection: Press OK to disconnect. The only option at this
point is OK.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Honestly, the first time I saw this display I thought it meant something went wrong
and the computer was disconnecting. After all typically when I plug in an Android
device a dialog box pops ups asking how I want to process this USB Flash Drive. In
this case nothing pops up, all I hear is a "ding" sound from Windows.

In my case the first time around, I got held up for several hours until another
ArchosFans.com member responded to my request for help. He explained what was
going on telling me he ran into the same misunderstanding.

You should continue on to the next step, which takes you to the desktop computer
with the AOS file.

9) It is now time to time to transfer the AOS file from the desktop computer to the
tablet. In the caes of Windows, you'll find one of your drive letters is now in
use.

I found the drive letter as a new Hard Disk Drive (HDD) instead of in the
Devices with Removable Storage list. The label of the HDD is A70S for an
Archos 70 IT 8 GB. I suspect other devices have similar names.

10) You should copy the AOS file to the tablet using the method you feel most
comfortable using, whethe that is using the File Explorer or a command line
window and the copy command, as in my case (copy d:*.aos o:\).

11) Once the copy finishes, you can close the command line window or File Explore,
or whatever method/application you were using to copy the AOS file to the tablet.

12) Unplug the USB cable before you press the power button to respond OK to the
tablet. I let the tablet sit unplugged several seconds before pressing OK.

12) When complete without errors, the device will reboot on its own and you'll be
running the Startup Wizard.

After the reboot completes, you're now ready for the next configuration and update
phase of getting your Archos Gen8 devic up and running with the Google Android
Marketplace and associated applications.

STARTUP WIZARD (First time through):

NOTE: At this point the tablet internal drive doesn't have all the files that
came with it originally from the factory. You will need to install
those files later on and have the tablet schedule a time to again run
the set up wizard.

1) You'll find yourself at the Startup Wizard.
1A) Language. While this was in English, there are several different versions of English.
I'm not sure, which of these is the default, but I choose English (American) to be
safe.
1B) Legal and Safety notices. It's a simple OK.
1C) Time zone. Changed from the default of GMT to Central Standard Time (GMT - 6:00)
1D) Date and Time. I learned to use what I call computer time (24-hour) during college.
When you're in a basement using a computer for long hours, it only makes sense to
use a 24-hour clock. Using the advanced settings you can change the unit from 12
to 24 hour clock mode.
First time users might need to turn off automatic clock setting and then manually
set the date and time because the unit most likely comes with the wrong date and/or
time set. Unfortunately, the automatic time won't work until the table can access
the Internet, which occurs in the next step. Archos should look at swapping date/time
setting and the Internet/WIFI Connections with each other.
1E) WIFI connections. This page gives you the opportunity to choose and configure the
wireless access point or bridge the device will use. You'll have the opportunity
to set the passwords and to disable automatic power control. I strong suggest you
only configure one entry at this time. After you completed the wizard do an update
of the other WIFI connections.
1F) Third Pary Applications. This first time through these applications are not on your
rebuilt system. Whether you want them or not, you should answer Don't Install until
the next time through.
1G) Accelerometer Calibration. For this prompt you'll want to lay your tablet on a flat
surface and leave it very still. It should be very quick (under 5 seconds), but it
also hung for me on more than one occasion. Don't worry as you can go back an manually
do this again through the Settings -> Repair & Formatting
1H) Demo mode. This gives you the opportunity to run the unit in demo mode for a store.
I haven't tried it and don't know what will happen or how the unit will behave.
1I) Press OK and you'll end the Startup Wizard and be at the home page of your tablet.


Because of the step to format the internal drive there various files missing from the
tablet that would hbave been there when it arrived from the factory. The next section
deals with installing those files, such as manualss, video and music files, and the
third pary application APK files.

FIXING PROBLEMS FROM RUNNING THE STARTUP WIZARD CAUSED BY THE TABLET FORMAT:

To fix the issue I found in 1F (missing drive contents), I contacted Archos technical support
three tiems. The first time the person told me there are no third party applications shipped,
you have to download the Appslib manually, as it doesn't come with the device, the manual is
not available on the machine. (I pointed out the shortcut and he didn't have an answer other
than to talk about reading the manual from the website.)

I called Archos Technical Support back a second time, as I realized the first guy was not
right in his position. I took a fresh new tact with this individual not mentioning the
first call (even to the point of using my cell instead of my home phone). He agreed there
were files missing after the format, but wasn't sure on how to get them back. He said they
would be on the technical support FTP site. While he was away trying to find the correct
method and files, I got disconnected. After waiting 30 minutes, I decided to try calling
a third time.

The third time was a charm, as this individual was an extremely helpful and
knowledgable person. She knew immmediately about the problem and had a very
simply and straight forward solution.

I ended up going to the Archos Support FTP site (ftp://support.archos.com/)and downloading
the file Archos 70 Internet Tablet HDD content zip files. The file is "A70 HDD contents.zip"
with an URL address of ftp://support.archos.com/A70 HDD contents.zip via your browser.

There is a readme file inside the zip file. To install (reinstall) the applications and
files of the internal drive, you'll need to perform the following steps.

1) Unzip the contents of this file on your desktop.
2) Connect your Archos Gen 8 tablet to your desktop computer.
3) Note the drive letter of the internal disk drive after you mount it.
4) Copy the folders you unzipped to the internal drive. In my case I:
4A) Opened a command line window in MS-Windows
4B) Changed to the directory with the folders to copy from the desktop
to the internal drive on the tablet.
4C) Verified the drive letter of the internal drive.
4D) Used the xcopy command with the /e (copy all files and empty folders)
to move the files from the desktop to the tablet. The correct location
is the root of the internal drive. This is the 8 GB or 250 GB drive
of an A70, 8GB or 16GB for the A101, etc. Examples of the xcopy
commands are:

xcopy d:.system o:\.system /e
xcopy d:Manuals o:\Manuals /e
xcopy d:Music o:\Music /e
xcopy d:Pictures o:\Pictures /e
xcopy d:Video o:\Video /e

I also copied to the external SD card the zip file and the readme file to insure
I kept a copy of this HDD content rebuild file with my tablet.

4E) The third party applications are in the .system/APK directory, which unfortunately
is an hidden directory to the Files application. Should you plan on none or all
of the third party applications, there is nothing more for you to do. You may
continue to the next step.

On the other hand if you want to run some of the third party applications, such
as AppsLib, you'll need to make them visible to the Files application. Which
applications you want to install is up to you but you should copy the APK file
to a directory that doesn't begin with a period / dot. In my case, I'm choosing
the applications, Appslib_2.apk and ColorNote.1.6.6.apk. I'll put them on the
external SD Card in their own subdirectory, so the Files application can find
them.

4F) Disconnected the USB drives.
4G) Using the Settings -> Repair & Formatting Tools, I scheduled the Startup Wizard to
run again.
4H) Rebooted the tablet.
4I) Once the device finished rebooting, the startup wizard started up and I went back
to the previous steps I used to run the Startup Wizard.

STARTUP WIZARD SECOND TIME:

Again I ran the startup wizard using the same steps as above, but with different results
in the end. NOTE: This time I did not try to install the third party applications, as
I don't need or want all of them. Instead I'll selectively install only the ones I want
to use in a future section of these instructions / blog.

The user manual application now works (offline) and I'm able to find and use the music
and video data file that were there originally (before the format of the tablet) to
prepare for the Android Marketplace installation.

Finally, I can again hear the group PV Nova, which I discovered I like. The ablum name is
demos & B-Sides with the songs being "Experiene No 1," "Goodbye," and "I don't want to remember."

THIRD PARTY APPLICATIONS:

The installation files for the third party applications that come with your Archo Gen 8 table
are in the .system\APK directory on the internal drive of the tablet (or you on your desktop
in the folder you unzipped). These APK files are:

1) Aldiko 1.2.10.apk
2) Appslib_2.apk
3) CineShowTime 1.10.1.apk
4) ColorNote 1.6.6.apk
5) Deezer 2.32.apk
6) eBuddy 1.8.3.apk
7) Flight Frenzy Lite 1.2.0.apk
8) Fring 2.1.1.24.apk
9) HUBkap Agenda 2.36.apk
10) Le Monde.fr 1.03.apk
11) Mewbox 1.4.apk
12) Napster 1.5.44.apk
13) Quickpedia 1.07.apk
14) Raging Thunder Lite 1.0.8.ap
15) Touiteur 1.55.apk
16) World Newspapers 1.1.11.apk

As discussed in step 4E, you may want to install some of the third party applications
and ignore other applications. For example, I use the Amazon.com Kindle application
on my desktop, my HTC EVO, and want to run it on my tablet. Most likely this means
skipping the installation of the Aldiko application in favor of Kindle. Your usage
might mean not installing any ebook reader or choosing a different one entirely.

While I do suggest you install the AppsLib application, so you have access to the Archos
approved Application Download Library (AppsLib) the choice is up to you. In my case, I
decided to install:

1) AppsLib: Appslib_2.apk
2) ColorNote: ColorNote 1.6.6.apk

Over time I may try out the other ones, but with this information I can pick and choose
when to install them.

In step 4E, I recommended you place in a visible directory (directories that do not begin
with a period/dot) the APK files for the applications you want to install. You may even
choose to copy them all or just a few.

Using the File application, I located the Appslib_2.apk and successfully installed it.
Opening it (AppsLib), I set it up to know about my Archos Account. My next step was
to install ColorNote, which is at verion 1.6.6 on the disk and also 1.6.6 in AppsLib.
I decided to install using the local APK, but you may choose to use AppsLib instead.

To make life easier we'll be installing the Google Android Marketplace using the
installer and packaged applications by kenyu73, as previously documented at the
beginning of this blog entry. The instructions will be coming from the page at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867303 As I already downloaded
at the beginning of the blog the necessary files, we're ready to proceed using
the steps following the download.


1) Using the Files application, locate the installer - gAppsInstaller.apk.

2) In the directory with the APK, there should be another file with the name
apps.zip. This file contains the optional applications available with this
installer. NOTE: It is possible to add APK files to this zip file and have
them automatically installed with the Android Marketplace. Adding APK files
is beyond the scope of this blog.

The apps.zip contains five APK files for YouTube, Google Maps, Google Mail,
Google VoiceSearch, and Google Voice. In order to install these applcations,
the apps.zip file must be in the root directory of the internal SD drive.
You can use the Files application to copy (suggested, instead of moving)
the apps.zip file to the root of the internal SD card. Once there, you
can proceed to install both the core and optional

3) Click on the Installer (gAppsInstaller.apk) and answer Install to the
first prompt asking "do you want to install this application?"

4) Once installed you'll want to execute it by pressing the "Open buton."

5) The installer will present you with three options:
5A) Install core and 'apps.zip'
5B) Install only core apps
5C) Remove all files!

The choice is yours as to the one you'll be using. In my case, I
choose core and apps.zip.

6) You'll get a message saying 5 files copied. Reboot your device.

7) Exit the installer and reboot your tablet.

8) After the boot completes, you'll find yourself at a Google message
tell you about backing up data, and asking you to sign in to the
Marketplace. Do NOT start using or begining configuring the
Marketplace at this time, as this will cause major issues later
on in finding some applications. Instead you'll want to apply
the market fix found on YouTube first before anything else. The

9) MARKET FIX INSTRUCTIONS: This will get you most missing apps from the market,
except for the "protected market applications." (e.g. BatteryView, Battery Watch,
Splash ID, NY Times, etc.) The application AppsMonster will list for you the
protected applications (in Red lettering), as well as backup non-protected applications
to your drives (useful in side loading).

1. Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Market (Clear Cache then 'Force Stop' -- DO NOT clear data)
2. Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Google Services Framework (Clear data then 'Force Stop')
3. REBOOT again

10) Finally configure your the Android Maketplace using your Google account (sign-in)
or create a Google account specific to the tablet.

Discuss using the same account for all devices and using device specific E-Mail addresses
using the multiple mail address support in GMail.

Allow the Google sync to complete.

ADDITIONAL CONFIGURATION STEPS

At this point, typically I do some small configuration changes to help make using the tablet
easier. These configuration steps are optional and really depend upon your personal choices.
In my case, they are:

1) Adjust the display timeout. Instead of keeping the default timeout at 15 seconds, I like
one longer. When I'm home on power, I'll use 10 minutes, while on the road it will be
a much shorter 1 or 2 minutes. To access this setting use:
Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Screen timeout and choose the length of time.

2) Adjust the brightness. This again is a personal choice, but as we're already in the
area, if you want to adjust it use the Brightness setting. NOTE: Unlike other Android
devices, the Archos doesn't use the camera to detect the current room brightness and
automatically adjuct the brightness for you. You'll be setting the brightness manually
and may want to return here as your physical envirnoment changes.

3) WIFI Connections. As I stated in the Startup Wizard steps, should you have more than
one access point or bridge available, I recommended only doing one. It would be a
good time now to start adding the additional Wifi networks.

It is possible some of these network connections will have issues. Typical problems
I run into are:

Not knowing the password for an access point: I'll keep a list in an encyrpted file
(e.g. Spash ID or Dataviz Password Plus) of this information.

Connection refused. In addition to using passwords and encyption for my network, I
also use Mac address filtering. Your system administrator might do the same. If this
is the case, you should contact the individual with the WIFI Mac address of your Archo
tablet. To find this number you'll need to do:

Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & network -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Menu -> Advanced
the address should be in a field labeled "MAC address" and be in the form
of HH:HH:HH:HH:HH:HH where HH are hexadecimal nubmers (00 - FF).
Example: 00:16:CD:55:8F:0F

4) Bluetooth. Typically it is now when I configure my Bluetooth. You can access the
Bluetooth via: Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Bluetooth
This consists of three steps for me:

4A) Change the device name. I'll change the device name, as I might end up with multiple
devices. In my family there are three of us with HTC EVO phones and by default they
alll came with the same Bluetooth name. Keep track of them is easier when they have
different names. In our case we use the following pattern:
"Name of the person uusing the device" "Device Manufacturer" "Device Model"
Exampe: "Berram's HTC EVO 4G" or "Bertram's Archos 70 IT 8 GB"
4B) Press on "Scan for devices." This will allow your Archos Gen 8 table to find other
Bluetooth devices. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT POINT: You may need to go and make other
devices discoverable before starting this scan. It might be easier to do one scan
for each device you'll add, as some devices have their own time periods (e.g. 2 minutes).

Once your tablet knows about each of these devices, it is time to pair them. Pairig
depends upon the type of device and I really don't feel comfortable instructing you
on the proper method to pair various devices. Let's just say you have lots of choices
when it comes to Bluetooth. You can pair phones, other tablets, desktops, keyboards,
mice, etc.
4C) Finally, the last Bluetooth step I perform is to make this device discoverable by
clicking on the "Discoverable" line. This causes your tablet to broadcast its
existence for about 2 minutes (120 seconds). It is during this time you can add
your tablet to the list of known devices controlled by other devices. You may have
to do this several times depending upon how many devices you own / use with Bluetooth.


5) Finally, I'll work on cleaning up and designing my desktop (home pages) before adding
the Google Android Marketplace, the Google applications, and other applications. This
is totally up to you and your personal likes and dislikes.

Well I finally am almost done having my Archos the way I want it. I had problems at first and kept getting a force close and when I clicked on the apps icon it wouldn't open force close always. I had market version 5 the new one. Well this time I got 4 the old one. I had a couple apps that weren't working last night so I don't have those now. But several apps from my EVO work great on here. Turns out I had to use a different email and username for Word Feud can't use my same sign on or it quit working on my phone but that's ok. I can still play it on here against other people and it's cool on the big screen and so is Angry Birds. I got Yahoo messenger with video add on and it was locking up a few times so I signed into yahoo using ebuddy then later on yahoo worked so I need to try it a but more and if it still locks up then it's gone.

But I have the main things I wanted and my emails are set up. For now I am just using the main browser. I have gmail and You Tube and Google Voice Search. I just got the You Tube app from market. I don't have any flash yet I'll just wait for Archos to have the update I guess.I like having my calendar on here with my events. I have my contacts too but I don't really need them since I can't text or call. You cant text using Handcent on here can you since it's not a phone? I don't think you can and my friend ask and I said I doubt it. Just like the push to talk app I doubt it will work on here. Only thing i had problems with was my Sirius wouldn't connect and iheart radio was rebooting the device did it twice so I am afraid to try it again. All I need now is to put my music on here a few videos and a movie or two to try and I'm good to go. I still have to configure my home screens more. Oh and I couldn't get Swype to work but I had the beta installer from there website. I know someone said it's over at XDA but I read from someone it didn't work as well on tablet and they liked swiftkey better but for phone Swype. I have the EVO now and it's the best thing ever and that is what got me hooked on Android.

So now that I have the marketplace can I still go to the Appslib and get Archos apps also? And do you guys fully shut yours off at night or just let the screen time out and go black? What is the difference between power off and deep sleep? I kind of remember something like that on my old Archos 605 but forgot what it does. I'm glad this forum is here cause it's really helped me. Now after a reset and starting over and getting things right so far I am loving this thing. Last night and today not so much kept force closing constantly when I would touch the apps icon. I'm still getting used to trashing stuff and moving things from one screen to another it's the same as my phone but a little harder for me for some reason to do it. I'm getting the hang of it though. When you say archos disk? What do you mean, directly onto the archos or a SD card or what?
Also where is device file manager? I'm very computer stupid, but if you give me instructions, I can usually get figured out. Thanks

I copied my Zedge folder from my phone to the Archos thinking all my ringtones and backgrounds would show up on the Archos but there not. When I go to change a ringtone and choose Zedge it only shows me these two I just downloaded not all the ones in the folder that I just put on the Archos. Oh well I can redownload the main ones I like I guess. Anyone got Swype to work on here? I have shapewriter on my phone also and it's not in the market anymore but is there a way for me to get the .apk off my phone somewhere? I really want some type of swype keyboard on here. I still get an occasional Activity Launcher Force Close but not constant like before I reset my Archos and last night at work it was freezing up and rebooted for no reason and I was using Yahoo Messenger so I may have to delete that. But when I got home and this morning it has been working fine. But at times notification wouldn't slide down and it was locking up and being real slow. But it may be ok now. I am not installing anything else just yet except for the app2sd card once I put the card in. And the last thing I installed was Yahoo so if it locks up again and makes thing slow or freeze I'll uninstall it. But this is a cool tablet and I love playing word feud on this big screen but it's great for just emailing and surfing the web on my breaks at work over using my EVO which I still love. My EVO got me hooked on Android. But this is a pretty cool tablet for a starter Android tablet. And I know Archos doesn't support Market Place on here but mine is much better after reset and getting the version 4 over 5. So for now I am leaving mine alone unless of course the Activity Launcher force close comes back permanently like it was in the beginning where I touched the apps icon and it wouldn't open.

It should either go to the device "/storage" area or the SDCard. Actually any place where you can store and start the program from.
Easiest should be to download the file right from the tablet and start it from there.
Your Archos device ships with a simple file manager, but you can install "Astro" which is a powerful replacement. You can find it on Appslib or Android Market.

Sure, I cleared the cashe and data of market, google servise follwed gApps manual.

Tell me how to fix or download Liveview apps, please!

When you save a bookmark to the Archos from the main browser does it go in some folder file manager? I looked and didn't see it. I want to know if I can just copy my phones bookmarks to the Archos? Also I got Zedge for my Archos which is ringtones and wallpapers and I copied them all from my phone to the Archos Zedge folder and they are there and will play/open from the file manager if I click it but if I go to change the sound for something and it says what do you want to use to open this with and I choose Zedge nothing shows up but these 2 new ones that I just downloaded to the actual Archos. But I would really like my bookmarks to transfer over. I do have Dolphin HD on my phone with a save bookmarks to sd card so maybe I need Dolphin on the Archos. I'll mess around with it later at work.

First let me say I love the info as a 30yr IT geek it is impressive but as a 30yr IT geek I'm always looking for the short cut so here is how I got MarketPlace 2.2.7 working with Froyo on my new Archos 70 with out resetting unit

- All post 2.2 AOS upgrade
- Previously had gApps4Archos v1 with Android 2.1 working
- Tride Upgrade to 2.2 and gApps4Archos2 - No Joy

Downloaded ArcTools 0.34 from ArcTablet http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-ta ... ube-fixed/

1. Downloaded to PC, move to Archos 70IT via USB
2. Intentionally did not reset Archos - lazy man
3. Installed Arctools, Downloaded/Installed Market 2.2.7 (no apps appeared on remove list)
4. Same old open close No Joy
5. Rebooted, again No Joy
6. Tried cache/force routine but no Google Framework appearing
6. Used Arctools to Remove all - 12 Apps removed
- not sure if it was app or my fat fingers but I did find myself in AirPlane mode at this point
7. Went back into ArcTools and Re-Downloaded and Installed, Rebooted
8. Immediately MarketPlace is working - had to re-enter email, accept eula, downloaded youtube, maps, etc
9. Every App I previously had downloaded works, all new apps work

In short - Install, Reboot, Remove, Reboot, Install, Reboot - All using the ArcTool Enjoy!

BTW Haven't seen any artifacts

I've been trying to help my friend with his Archos today (tethering his internet from his phone, so he can have internet everywhere, and things like that. So I was wondering if this works with the Archos 32, and if someone can link me to the right APK that works with it.

xP3RRYx, to my knowledge, tethering on Archos Gen8 devices (that includes the 32 model) does not require any specific application. You can do it with stock firmware and setup. As always make sure your firmware is latest on your device (Archos fixed some WIFI and stability issues lately)

My Archos is acting up again and is slow and freezing again and I am getting force closes again. Think I'm gonna reset it again. Last night I left my cell phone in my car so I downloaded this good morning alarm clock that I have on my phone and now it got worse and it wont let me uninstall it. It's stuck on the uninstall screen. I forgot there was already an alarm clock on here but I keep getting activity launcher force close alot again. I'm gonna start over. Is it gonna erase my email info will I have to reconfigure my email? I know there is a setting to save personal stuff like my music and stuff and I have a memory card in there too. Do I take that out before I reset it? I know this isn't made for the market place but I'm gonna try to reset and start over once again.

I know this isn't made for the marketplace so I can't blame it on the Archos tablet but now I am wondering if I should've waited a few months for something better to come along. That activity launcher force close is coming up more and more since I put that alarm clock on here but it still was coming up some every so often. And now I can't seem to delete this alarm clock program to see if that is causing it. I keep hitting menu and nothing comes up then I get force close activity launcher. The other night it just kept rebooting over and over and I hadn't installed anything else new cause everything was working fine and then it started freezing and being slow last night when I was trying to show it to someone and that was before I got home and put that alarm clock on here. Now it's worse so I'm gonna start all over from scratch again I guess. But I want Market on here cause I love my Word Feud scrabble game on this screen and I like how my calendar events show up. I know Angry Birds was in the appslib market and I guess apps from there are suppose to be compatible right? But there are a few things from marketplace that I want on here so I guess I'll start over.

I think I must have worded that wrong. What I meant was I was just helping my friend with that stuff, but I was also wondering if this market install works on the Archos 32. I don't wanna try it, then it not work, and be dissapointed.

Used the ArcTools option. Doesn't slow down my ARCHOS 101 like the gApps4Archos2.apk did. I could not get this to install over the gApps4Archos2.apk install, I had to reload and start from scratch. Easy install after that. Installed ArcTools Downloaded market 2.2.7 rebooted installed market and rebooted. Signed in no issues thus far. Thanks for the awesome Arc link.

I'm going to Vegas in a few weeks and they have 4G and I would love to tether off my Archos in the room.. They don't have free wifi they have an ethernet cable they give you to hook up to your laptop and I'm not bringing that.

Also I left my AC Archos charger at work yesterday. Will it charge USB in the computer like my phone will? Or is that for transferring data only? My Archos was slow and freezing up again after a reset and I had realized I left off Google Voice Search which is the last thing I put on and a day later it acted up so uninstalled that and it was working good last night. Went to check it again today and realized I left my charger at work. I didn't know if the USB cable provided would charge too like it does on my phone even though it's slower.

Set your EVO to wifi hotspot and connect your Archos to it like the way u did to any router. It's just simple as that.The

Archos is not capable of charging thru' the USB port. U will need the charger.
