USB > DC charging cable

Post by gibbon »

refering to this

does anyone have any experience with it? will the general USB port power (500ma?) be enough juice to get a suffieicent charge to the device? (i know my HTC desire takes aggggges to charge via USB.

also does anyone know of where to get a similar (smaller) cable? 1.5m is far too long to carry around in your case/bag.

Hi,
I bought this cable,
the description is not good, it's a black color cable and it's not 1.5m but 50 cm....
It's ok in my car with my Brodit mount.
It's working on my laptop, my computer and on a cigarette lighter.

That cable plugged inta a standard USB port will work fine, although it will charge slow. The 101 needs 2 amps for full charging, so the 500 ma that comes from a standard USB port will work, if not slowly.

If you are getting this to make a car charger, then using it in addition to the following car USB 2 amp adapter, you will get a full mobile charging solution.

A cable like you mentioned:

or
http://www.pjbox.co.uk/shop/shop.php?ac ... ll&id=3251
or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00305 ... ss_product

Plus this no-name USB 2 amp adapter
http://www.madvapes.com/2-amp-Car-to-US ... _2358.html

I bought the Amazon cable, and the adapter from madvapes, and they work great!

it will charge very slowly from a standard USB port.

that may well be the case but a) any juice is better than no juice, dont much fancy lugging around the relatively big charger in my bag and risk damaging the screen. b) i plan on using with my power monkey which i believe outputs at >500ma or a small USB charger I have. both much easier to travel with

Just an FYI - I used my Targus Cooling Stand USB cable that has same Archos 70 power pin and it charged fine, it is taking 20 to 30% more time than usual power adapter,so this could be used as car charger if you have USB car charger with this cable. Also, somebody mentioned that Antec laptop cooler USB cable also worked.
