1,8 inch HDD with the A70

Post by icebaba2001 »

HI,

I have bought an micro USB A adapter to USB 2.0 A adapter (hopefully it will be deliverd today), so I think I can use USB sticks etc....
is it also possible to use a 1,8 inch HDD with the adapter? does the micro usb port from A70 have enough power to run the small HDD?
I would love it when it would work......

Based on power consumption it should not work, unless you have external power supply for it. It has to be formated using FAT32, until Archos provides us with ext#/NTFS support.
1.8" drives, Toshiba, use ~1.8W
A70 has 5V 100mA out so it's 0.5W
Board A70S-v7+8GB Class2 w~7mb/s

I tried a Samsung 200gb 1.8" HDD with a usb adapter and it didn't work. I had to plug in a y-spitter cable to give usb power.

Not sure if Archos can increase the power output of the micro USB to 500mA via software. Anyway I am quite puzzled why they can't let the micro USB go for the max power output. Is it due to some USB standard requirements?
