Let's post Froyo firmware video tests, to see how it improves video playback of high profile HD video files further.

This one plays great from built-in storage, seems perfectly smooth, on A70 Froyo LCD and HDMI. This sequence is same as in this youtube clip so you can have an idea about how fast action it is.

Stutters on my wifi-n upnp from synology d201j nas, to be confirmed, samba/upnp speed may be improved in firmware update. This is not yet samba/upnp testing thread. Just local file playback and evt usb host playback if that is as fast as built-in storage.

They look better on the Archos video player than they do on the desktop browser.

I have the full concert and it now has a permanent place on my 101 Rin's segment is awesome.

I find it somewhat odd that it will play 720p movies, but had a FAT32 file size limit of 4GB. Most of the 720p movies I get a slightly more than that.
I wonder if there is a way to divide it into 2 parts without a long encoding process.

Yeah there is "instant" splitting. Best way is for the file to be split while you actually transfer it using USB, this way it basically takes the same time to transfer as the file would take to transfer unsplit anyways. And doesn't require you to save a copy onto your hard drive before transfering. That is, if you prefer to keep your Archos in FAT32 and want to store 4GB+ movies on it. The Archos media player automatically recognizes one large split video as one big video.

Also, I expect you will have the option to format the Archos built-in memory in EXT3 if you want. Then you just have to know this can be harder to connect to Windows/Mac without EXT3 usb drivers on those. I don't know about formatting the MicroSD card in EXT3, I guess that will work too.

to clarify , is this auto file splitting malarky a 2.2 feature? how does it mount the actual drive in windows then? as if its fat32 then windows will be the one complaining that it doesnt have enough space on the disk would it not?

I had the Archos 70 with 2.1 and returned it, because when playing 720p mkv (AC3 5.1) through HDMI sometimes in scenes with much action there was a sort of stuttering and then often the audio came out of sync. Is this solved completly with Froyo 2.2?

Using the file splitter app, we can now easier test some large movie files without needing EXT3 formatting or NTFS USB host support. Yesterday I watched about 40 minutes of this movie on HDMI using my A43, the splitted movie stored on Class2 32GB MicroSD and it plays back absolutely flawlessly with and without subtitles. Well, for some obscure reason I did experience a "Media server error" about 40 minutes in, but in my opinion the flawless HDMI playback is a good sign.

Included in the mkv. 2.2 has new better video playback for 720p mkv files as you can test yourself. I'm looking forward to many more reports of successful high bitrate high profile mkv playback with media info in this thread.

Aside from the "media server error" this sounds like FANTASTIC news!!! Can't wait to get my pre-ordered unit in my hands. This would also correct Archos' earlier estimations of the max profile Level being 3.1. Awesome!

It's still being tested. I think the media server error happened because of this splitting, I am sure they will fix this in the next update.

Also, I read something in that post, where the splitter link was, that I am not too sure about. Does the file get split into 3-4 different parts and essentially get renamed, for example: flick1, flick2, flick3, flick4? Or is it something that when scrolling through your video list you don't see? Thanks.
