How to install Eclair Google Marketplace on Archos Gen8
Using firmware 1.0.70 or 1.0.84 (still Android Eclair), follow this guide: http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=38186
1. Download gApps4Archos.apk from that page: http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=38186
2. Transfer this file to your Archos using USB (or download it directly onto your Archos using the web browser)
3. Click on it using the "Files" file browser functionality
4. That's it. You've now got Google Marketplace, Gmail, Google Maps, Gtalk, Google Listen, Google Contacts etc.

Re: How to install Google Marketplace on all Archos Gen8 tab
Any word on Android 2.2 market app yet? Have you tested one?
If this is just for 2.1, people may want to hold off until 2.2, since the Google 2.1 and 2.2 frameworks for the market are different, so the market app will be broken after updating and will not see the apps installed (no market app to see them).
Then again, maybe it will simply be a case of installing the apps through the market and then waiting for a new market app for 2.2. At least you will have the apps on your device, but no way to update them until a 2.2 market app arrives.
Charbax, I am surprised you would suggest the 2.1 market app if 2.2 is just a few weeks away... or IS it?

The openaos guys already explained to cajl how to install the marketplace on froyo beta: http://www.jbmm.fr/2010/11/28/un-androi ... ous-froyo/ amazing what they can do without the firmware even being out. That's an adb method, I'm sure a clean easy apk will be out within days when the firmware is out for all.

It automatically changes itself to an uninstaller when you run it (it explains the process as it goes). The installation apk can be deleted after installation, as with any other apk.

No APK for 2.2 yet, but there are already two solutions to install the Market and Google Apps on Froyo.

Sure, it's not an Easy button, but it works.

How does the apk version work? I'm trying to understand how 0Maps.apk is in /system/app pointing to /data/test/******
EDIT: NM, these files are already there.

Re: How to install Google Marketplace on all Archos Gen8 tab
The Samsung Vibrant has the same processor. Does anyone have one of those to pull 2.2 market and flash off of to see if it works?
Re: How to install Google Marketplace on all Archos Gen8 tab
Desperately waiting for the APK. I was dumb enough just to run the update... now all my favorite APPs are gone and I can't reinstall them ... and still no flash...
I advise everyone to WAIT, at least until the APK for froyo is out ... otherwise you'll be f***ed just like me. I am a newbie, but this lesson will teach me ...

Re: How to install Google Marketplace on all Archos Gen8 tab
this will get market working on 2.2
just download the new Vending.apk from my quote below, and replace the one in market.rar from the top quote. follow the rest of those instructions and you'll be all set.
I recommend downloading gmail and any other google apps you want through the updated market after installing, as those included in market.rar are all old (2.1)
edit: all i believe you really need to do is create the folders, copy the newer Vending.apk to it, and reboot. I don't know what else in market.rar is necessary but those instructions worked for me so i included them.

4. - plug Gen8 device in USB (without USB development option)
5. - copy the directory market on the Gen8 device on the root directory
6. - unplug the device
7. - launch Terminal Emulator
8. - type "cd data/test"
9. - "mkdir -p froyo/system/app"
10. - "cd froyo/system/app"
11. - "cp /sdcard/market/*.apk ."
12. - "ls -l" to check that all the apk are here
13. - reboot and enjoy

i copied the vending.apk out of my 2.2 Evo and followed the directions again, this time only copying that specific apk after deleting the existing one. now browsing downloading installing from the market no crashes, so a new vending.apk is your solution.
well whaddaya know , it seems some nice fella uploaded the proper vending.apk here:

definitely wasn't me, just replace the one from your existing "market" folder. it should be 900+kb(new) vs 600+kb(old)
teach you to be cautious, but don't get so worked up! it just gives you chance to figure out solutions on your own. all of my purchases through market were still there, i just reinstalled no problem. you can install flash through market as well.yourgsle wrote:Desperately waiting for the APK. Instead of downloading both files I just created an archive of the files that you need, all it is is the vending.apk replacing the previous one already
Sorry its .rar so you'll need to extract it with a program
Re: How to install Eclair Google Marketplace on Archos Gen8
I installed 2.2 yesterday and all my market apps disappeared. Is there an apk file for google apps for 2.2?
Re: How to install Eclair Google Marketplace on Archos Gen8
Where do I download that updated RAR file?
