Froyo 2.2 Update: Official Thread
Re: Froyo 2.2 Update: Official Thread
Well that it for me.. sending it back for refund... "not as decribed" , we have 14 days in uk to refund.. so not taking the chance Archos sort themselves out... too many bugs to use it seriously and lack of Flash makes it useless for kids etc, real shame as I kinda liked it.. but many more tablets coming onto the market shortly..

This is what they told me
As for the Android 2.2 firmware we are currently awaiting for the rest of our
Generation 8 items to release to the market before we put out the update. The
rest of Generation 8 should be releasing this month according to the latest
information we have received.
Thank you,

Keep on "discovering and achieving" things. I am at the point of giving up on archos, my pre-order date was pushed a whole week forward.

OOhHHH,, u are sending back ur 101 as well? from all ur posts it seemed like u liked the device a lot and keeping it!
Re: Froyo 2.2 Update: Official Thread
A whole week? My pre-order date was changed from Nov 1 to Nov 19. That's almost 3 weeks... With the shady changes to the Archos website (Nov 12 changed to a nebulous November 2010), the lack of any concrete launch date in the US, the fact that there are more than a handful of folks on the other side of the pond with the device in their hands, and I STILL have to wait another week, it's hard to not be annoyed to the point of walking away entirely.kaivish wrote:zoom101 wrote:Laugh all you like but I've discovered and achieved more in the last 2 hours than you can ever imaginekaivish wrote:LOL

I know there are some die-hard Archos fans here, and I had all the plans to count myself as one of those folks when I got my 101 in my hands... It looks like an amazing piece of hardware. But unless I can actually HOLD one, I can't claim to be a fan. There's no doubt this launch was obviously blundered from a marketing and business standpoint. Archos if you were ever to read this (though doubtful), take some honest advise: Fire your marketing VPs and staff immediately!!! They've done you no good for the launch of these devices, and frankly have done more harm to your reputation than anything. Sliding launch dates, over and over, unfulfilled promises over and over. Pride in spite of a singular mistake is one thing, but lack of business competency is another. Archos has failed most miserably in their ability to practice good business. They've only got themselves to blame when enough orders get canceled to get their CEO's attention.

delayed releases do nothing apart from annoy a few vocal internet geeks like us. most of said geeks will still purchase delayed product.
most customers customers who will buy the product either wont mind the delayed release or wont be aware of it.
i dont think archos will be firing anyone to be honest. i've said it before and i'll say it again, its not the first time a product has been delayed in its release, it wont be the last. ultimately it will not effect the business in any major way.

I don't want to rain on your parade but any marketing skills will tell you that for a small company to invest in a complete new product range when their stock price is negligable and that product range is in direct competition to major players, one does not delay a prouct launch before Xmas!gibbon wrote:delayed releases do nothing apart from annoy a few vocal internet geeks like us. most of said geeks will still purchase delayed product.

Worst of all, one does not launch a range of products that use the exact same firmware and promise it in the specs before it is ready. Your whole range is at risk if you don't deliver, let alone your reputation for the future.

Do they have any comments about software buttons screen alignment/scaling bugs?:)zoom101 wrote:Android 2.2 FroYo will NOT be released for the 101 today 12th November 2010
Production issues, software problems and inventory sourcing problems mean that the promised Froyo 2.2
update will not be available for another one to two weeks and Flash 10.1 will not be made available
at the same time as FroYo 2.2 but "will be available no more than 2 weeks after the release of FroYo 2.2"
This is from an official source.
Please do not ask for more info, I may have an update later but I may not but take it form me, that's the sum of it.
How could they prevent installation of flash if they realease 2.2...
Re: Froyo 2.2 Update: Official Thread
My bullshit detector says Archos is having issues with 2.2 and Flash on the 101 that may not be resolvable, at least by them. The continuously missed dates is a sign that they don't have a clue what's going on. Maybe the 256MB RAM in the device is proving more of a limitation than they imagined. When a release date is repeatedly missed it's because the date was forced on an engineering team by marketing or the engineering team is incompetent and can't hit the dates that they agreed to or there are serious issues with a product that can't be made to function as planned. Either way it's not good for Archos or its customers. I think this is a sign that we all should bail on this device and not pay a single cent until it is released complete with Android 2.2 and Flash and tested and reviewed by independent reviewers who can verify the products quality. My experience with the 5IT has me concerned that they may not ever deliver on 2.2 or Flash for the 101. There's a very real possibility that the 101 may be stuck with Android 2.1 forever.

What do you expect- They are French
This is par for the course for business there. Simple fix is to move them to Germany and get some respect for their customers and some business discipline!
Really.

Re: Froyo 2.2 Update: Official Thread
I have just received a response from archos in the UK. It is as follows:
"I have spoken to the relevant person at the head office, they have advised that the upgrade will not be available today ÔÇô they will have further information on Monday, but are hopeful it will be next week. They have been testing the upgrade internally and it has not yet been validated and signed off. I apologise for the delay. I will keep you updated as soon as I receive further information from France."
A previous email from the same person last week was as follows:
"The product spec on our web site states that the unit has 2.2, but there is a footnote mark by this ÔÇô that footnote does state that 2.2 will be available in November. It was originally due for release by the end of October, but that delay is from the Google Android release, not ARCHOS."
Here's hoping to getting 2.2 next week!
