New firmware 1.0.84 available

Guys...new firmware available....hopefully this update fixes my video hanging issues....

* Video: fix some videos hanging during playback or seek
* Video: improve fluidity of HD playback
* Video: improve subtitles detection
* Photo: fix some JPEG decoder crashes
* UPnP: increase timeout to allow server discovery
* Power: long press on power button (5s) initiates shutdown
* Touchpad mode: improved usability on TVout
* Touchscreen: avoid possible loss of touchscreen after boot/calibration/suspend on A70/A101
* Airplane mode: disable Wi-Fi
* USB host: speedup device availability by avoiding file system check at mount
* Plugins: propose installation at USB disconnect and correctly report plugin status in settings
* Internalization: Polish translations

Damn update caused my 32 to stop connecting to my pc. Had to format the drive and downgrade to 1.0.70. Last time i'll be updating for a while. Plus market doesnt work with .84

Edit: I reformatted again and added 1.0.84 and got market working again. .84 seems to address a lot of the wifi issues I had with. 70

Edit2: .84 seems to be the snappest update so far.

no usb connection possible under win xp after update. windows finds a device, assigns a letter, but wont access.

I had the same problem with Windows 7. If you have another machine, try it. If you have important data on their then i'd wait for another solution but with my 32 i just ended up formatting the device and reflashing the device with .84 with the Archos device recovery manager.

i have the same issue under windows 7 as well. i wonder if there is any solution but to go back to 1.0.70?

Try this (you will loose all of your data in the process, so beware)

Download the 1.0.70 firmware first: http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_1. ... d_gen8.aos

Power down the device by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
Then hold down the Volume down button on the side of the 32.
Press the power button while holding the volume down button
After a couple seconds you should get a recovery system screen
Go down to Format System (use the volume rocker to move up and down & power= enter)
Then go down to reformat device
Have you usb cable near by as you will need to drag and drop the 1.0.70 firmware onto the 32 when formatting is complete.

Hi ive been able to do that, and its come back to the start as if its new, but still doesn't respond to any pressing on screen grrrrrrrr need to be returned?

Going to list exactly what I've done

power off
press vol and power to go into recovery
down to format system press power
press reformat device
agree to their warning

It formats

Then it says USB Connection : press ok to disconnect OK

At this stage i connected it to the pc and dropped the file into the folder, then press ok and it tells u not to disconnect it...It finally came back on and it was at the calibration section as if its new, but doesn't respond to any presses on the screen


Odddd that a update by the company has this effect

thats odd. the only thing i can really suggest is maybe trying again with the 1.0.41 or 1.0.30 firmwares and if those dont work then have archos replace your 32 since the screen is malfunctioning

Edit Took it back today and got a replacement...Just a bit worried about doing a firmware update now..

Yesterday i couldnt get a good wireless signal, and did the firmware via the pc, but today i did it via the 32 and it works great phewwww relief
