https://transfer.archos.com/cgi-ssl/dow ... gNC-archos

Compared to last 1.8.38 beta release
- Fullscreen: remove notification beep
- Audio: add support for .M4B files
- Display: fix overlay support under android
- Gallery: put back gallery that was missing
- Network streaming; fix issue not being able to play in background
- Internationalization: add hebrew glyphs in font and corresponding virtual keyboard layout

Note that copilot issue is not fixed in this beta release.

Went to sleep last night with the AMC playing MP3s and plugged into USB power.

Woke up this morning and although the mp3s were still playing, the screen was sluggish and unresponsive, only registering clicks occasionally (I've got audio feedback on) but none of the on screen controls would work. A shot press on power would sleep the screen, but a long press would not bring up the Device Options menu.

I eventually had to do the long-press power-off to get the device to be responsive again.

A few things...

USBNet mode still locking up on mount after longer use of the A5A. Didn't see that fixed in the changelog, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. :D

And this morning, was listening to an .m4b audiobook whilst making lunch with the AMC on screen. After about half an hour, when I came back, it was on the Android home screen (perhaps it soft rebooted?) and although the audio was still playing, it was unresponsive to touches or power button presses to bring up the Device Options menu. Had to long hold the power button to reboot.

yep ive found excatly the same with sluggish ness after falling asleep with the machine playing.
Also found another bug, if your playing a file in amc and you dock the machine, sometimes the configure tv out ficks up then vanishes, the file plays for a few more secs then freezes, the machine wont take any inputs from the touch screen, the only way round the issue is a hard reset. Ive repeated this bug a number of time now, the workaround is to dock the machine with home screen shown and amc paused at the very least.

Cool! First spontaneous hard reboot!

I *finally* freed up enough space on the apps partition after that bloatware Thinkfree overflowed the tub last install...

So I decided to try a 3D game, Wave Blazer Lite. After downloading it from the market, I pressed the 'Open' button in the market and Viola! The 'Archos Entertainment Your Way' bootscreen! 8)

After it finished rebooting, the game ran fine, BTW. :D

I experienced this same issue a few times since this beta firmware update too..

Perhaps some bug with the new updated (and faster?) AMC driver or with the new direct framebuffer access scheme?

There might be an issue with the frame buffer and the AMC at that.

Today was listening to an audiobook on the AMC with the device in my pocket, screen off. When I turned the screen on, the AMC interface was there but zoomed in a a pretty high magnification! I could actually scroll a list of files, but since I could only see a very small part of the screen, it clearly wasn't usable. Was going to long-hold to power it off, but the Device Options menu popped up so I was able to reboot from there.

More new odd stuff. When transferring files via USBNet to Storage/Music, the OS (10.6 Snow Leopard, up to date) errored out, telling me I did not have correct permissions to write to the device. It has been happening sporadically, affecting some files but not others. File names and permissions are fine on my Mac are fine and permissions seem to be fine on the Archos, haven't changed anything.

I've had "errored out" messages regarding permissions before... are you sure your battery has plenty of juice in it for the file transfer? My issue from the past involved a very low battery and a pretty large file transfer, whereas the usb connection could not provide enough juice for the duration of the transfer, the Archos would actually blank out and the computer gave me the error message. Is that anything like what you are experiencing?

With this new firmware, my Wifi connexion is very often off when I exit from sleep mode. Then I have to desactivate and reactivate wifi option in android setup screen...
Am I alone with this problem ?

Today I was out all day with a single large .m4b file playing for about 5-6 hours, screen asleep. By the time I came back in and tried to wake it from sleep, it was unresponsive to the short press of the power button to wake it up. Instead, I docked it into the DVR station where the Android home screen eventually appeared (don't know how long it took as after 6 hours, I *really* needed to visit the toilet facilities rather quickly... ;) ).

Even from a clean boot, Settings/Data synchronization triggers a hard reboot back to the 'Archos Entertainment Your Way' screen. 8)

I also keep getting told that it's safe to remove my storage media as it shuts down, but so far I've resisted the urge to crack it open and pull the SSD out. :D

Also, several times after using the AMC for a short or long time, when I try to launch an app, I get the top bar but otherwise a black or white blank screen and it locks up.

I remember getting that as well, with 1.8.38 I think.
