I've had my 704 for just longer than the QVC return period. First impressions were great, but on day 2 I recorded a programme and when played back, the picture was approx. twice the speed but the sound was O.K., then about 10 seconds later, the sound also speeded up. I played about with various bitrate settings, same thing on all setting. Only happened the once at first, but I rang the Arcos support line and was advised to download the latest firmware, did so, but no change. Also emailed Arcos - no response.
In about a week same thing happened again and on every subsequent recording. Checking "info" on recorded videos showed the bit rate a lot higher than what it is set at eg. set at 2500, info states 3800. Emailed Archos again - no response (do they look at emails?).
Rang Archos, the operator had heard of this before and advised me to do a "factory reset" (in Repair & Format tools menu). Did so (loses all data!) but no different. From reading the manual, tried a "master reset", this time it seemed to work. Tested with 20 recordings, all O.K. But that was last week - this morning, guess what - fast videos again.
On the Archos website, there is a FAQ page, but there are no items relating to the 704. I know its fairly new, but from forums such as this there seems to be a lot of concern over reliability. I would have thought Archos should be concerned!
Anyone had the same problem?
Anyone had a response to an email sent to Archos?
I really want to like this device. It does exactly what I wanted with videos, photos and music, but I'm losing faith!
704: Fast videos
Geoff ?
I can't guarantee this will completely cure your problem, but you should upgrade to the latest firmware, go to the Archos website, firmware downloads are at the bottom of the home screen.
I and several others have had this problem and an update seems to resolve this, although I have had one occurrence since updating..

Steve

It seems that Archos just ignores emails from users that ask for support. I'm having the crashing 704 problem. I mailed Archos now four times within 6 weeks. Not even a single reply.
I'm going to return my unit. This is ridiculous. I can only advise everybody to keep away from brand new Archos devices.

Audio sync with video
I have a similar problem, and have alredy updated to the most recent firmware. My audio starts off fine but if I fast fordward or rewind it gets off by about 1.5 seconds and stays off sometime getting as far as 3 seconds off. What in the world?????
I have not contacted Archos about this yet but based on everyones opinion of Archos support i don't know if talking to a brick wall will help.
Cheers.
