Problems Charging an Archos 504

Post by clicktrain »

Dear Archos Fans,

I'm hoping you could help me out with my Archos 504. I purchased it several years ago, and, for the past few months, have been having issues charging it.

When I plug my Archos in to charge (I connect it to my computer via USB), it automatically turns on. However, after about one minute, the device spontaneously turns off. I have tried the gold-button-under-the-battery reset to no avail.

Could I have a faulty cable?

I appreciate any input!

It could be that the battery is at the end of its life. If they still sell them I'd get a new one.

It seems that Archos is no longer selling them? Any suggestions?

Thank you for sending me the link.

Do these batteries have a good track record?

I remember multiple stories/blogs from several years back in which after-market cell phone batteries from China blew up.

Well, the reason why those batteries blew up is because the overcharge/current circuits were either missing, badly designed, or faulty. I think alot of the Archos devices have those circuits built into the actual device. (Though I am not sure, maybe someone can give some insight.)

But I have yet to read that someones device exploded, when the bought batteries from that site. The worst I've seen was the battery pack bulging, but still "working" and not leaking.

I see.

Thanks for helping me out. :) I'll be grabbing one of these batteries when they become available.

They do have the double life battery in stock, if you don't mind the increased size. It's only about $8 more: http://newmp3technology.com/mb504fat.htm
