Any reason to upgrade my firmware?

I'm new to the 404 scene (I'm more in tune with the 5 and 605). I just bought a 404 and it came with firmware 1.2.06

I know that once I upgrade to the 1.6.53, I can't go back. Is there any reason not to do this though?

Any hacks I can do?
