Dell Streak vs Archos 5 Android?
Dell Streak vs Archos 5 Android?
Anyone have an idea of how the Archos 5 will compare to the Dell Streak? Or do you think its too early to say the Streak?

First of all, it's called the Streak, and I would say it's definitely too early to make educated comparisons.

I would say by the looks of it. It is probably better in every way but video and storage.
Think there will be a non 3g model?

Lmao yea my bad, I was looking at some stuff ont he STreamlight.... and well I guess it got to me. Well anyway, based on specs, it could potentially overtake the Archos 5, but there is truth to the fact that it is quite early.ALooneyGuy wrote:First of all, it's called the Streak, and I would say it's definitely too early to make educated comparisons.

It does look cool at first glance - user replaceable battery and Android 2.0 top the list for me. But it will lack huge storage, probably won't have the video capabilities of an Archos, including recording video, and you'll likely be tied to another wireless contract.
Re: Dell Streak vs Archos 5 Android?
for me i guess it depends on what processor they use, if it's a crappy processor you might as well buy a nokia n810 for simple web browsing.
if they use the same processor as the archos, or snapdragon it might be worth it as a mid not a pmp if not i'll wait to archos fixes all the bugs and gets android 2.0 and flash and buy one. as it truly something i'm looking forward to

Re: Dell Streak vs Archos 5 Android?
gadgetell reported on 7 Jan that Dell, at a CES press conference pulled out a Streak. Not much in the article except a few photos. Oh, and a 5M pixel camera in the back. You can read the article here.
Looks like the Archos 5IT will have some severe competition from the big boys in 2010. Dell has the resources to put some serious effort into MIDs. Any leverage Archos has from their smooth video playback can be wiped out by Dell engineers in a matter of months. Plus Dell holds more sway with HW chip makers and SW giant Google.
May we have an interesting year!

Video support will play a key part in any competitor. Right now Archos stands on top with all that it offers.AllenPapapetrou wrote:gadgetell reported on 7 Jan that Dell, at a CES press conference pulled out a Streak. Do the math. Deeper pockets for Dell gives Dell the ability to hire more SW/HW engineers. EVERY advantage Archos has NOW can be wiped out in a few months by Dell.AllenPapapetrou wrote:...

...
Given a product life of 1-2 years, the Product announcement of next generation of the Archos 5 will probably, instead, be an announcement of the sale or dissolution of Archos.
Companies like Archos can lead the pack for a while with innovation then die when the big companies notice their markets.
I'm very grateful to Archos for their contributions. I suspect, for me and a lot of folks with Archos devices, our next MID will not be from Archos.
