Best buy didn't. I almost preordered from them. Even with the tax I would have saved 50 bucks.

It's flash memory. It's fater and shock resistant.That tends to be more expensive I guess.... My thought is that it's more expensive just because they can. I wonder how fast the read/write actually is.

For example, I've dropped my classic iPod dozens of times and never had a problem. The Archos feels like the slightest touch will screw it up.

The sad part is that it wasnt always this way.... My (still alive) AV500 have survived 2 falls to hard concrete of hip high and even with a notable dent right next to the screen, this is fully functional and the HDD its doing great.... At the same time I heard about broken ipods for less than that.

Archos has lowered their quality standards over functionality and this seems normal in most electronic devices (phones)...

I really wished for a glass screen on the Archos 5... I dont care for resistive touchscreen... also I would have loved to see TV-Out feature built in again.. (like the 3 vision ) but oh well.. you cant have everything in one device (just yet)

I usually drop my iPod on the subway. The train comes to a screeching halt, someone bumps into me and etc. Last time it fell, it made a giant POW sound and I was actually worried, but I picked it up and it was still playing music. My Archos just felt so fragile. I was afraid to take it anywhere. I only had it for 30 days (it kept locking up on the 28th day, so I returned it), but I was so paranoid the whole time.
