Can I replace the hard drive?

not without changing the serial # on the HardDrive. They code the serial # of HD into each Archos.
404 uses hitachi 1.8" zif style HD which is not easy to find anyway.

my 404 had oxidation on the zif cable which stopped my HD from working.. check out my post about the zif cable..

i''ve just ordered one and will see if that works.. might have to check the pins on the HD also..
