Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
Guys I bought an Archos 5 before 15-20 days. After 4-5 days my new Archos had a problem with it loudspeaker. (I noticed also 3-4 dead pixels but it were too small). It broken, the sound was TERRIFIC. I sent it back and they gave me another (new) one. (They couldn't fix the problem of my old archos).
Anyway, today i took my new Archos 5. But it has a problem AGAIN.
Many dead pixels, i would sent it back again. But im too angry.
How many times i'm supposed to sent it back to get a GOOD NEW Archos 5 without any problem.....

Re: Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
idk it seems like i have a decent one. i have no major problems with it yet
Re: Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
It seems that me and nintendomaster89 both have good ones, but I have just spent a week in Tenerife only to find that playing Archos games (mahjonng) etc caused it to freeze.
And I was disappointnted that the volume level meant that I couldn't hear a film properly over the general cabin noise and the aircraft noise.

You need to hang in there particularly if you are still under warranty! Send it back again of you have to. I've had my unit since November and have had NO hardware issues with it whatsoever and I use it every day.
Re: Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
i also had had no problems at all
Re: Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
Thank's for ur answers. With my Archos 605 wifi i also had NO problem (but someone stole it so i bought an archos 5)
I will definetely sent my Archos5 back.
I hope not to tell me "Dead pixels? Where? ... too small, it's ok"

the op needs to state what is wrong with his player, ie fat 32 errors, start up errors, or just plain and simply not charged.

my other post got deleted? Whatever. Hahah you guys have fun.
Guess what?
Even if your player is fine.. for now. When your player starts acting up, be it wear and tear, or an accident, and you want to ask archos to fix it?
Good luck.
That's the reason why i sold it. Mine was perfect too. But guess what? Like every electronic device, you'd like to be insured. And with archos, warranty is just another way of saying "i have your money now, so i can do whatever i want".
You see it's not about how costly it is, it's expensive. But for the amount i pay for it, i expect reasonable customer support. Not a 2 hour long wait for someone to answer your call. Giving you another defective unit as a replacement.. Or better yet, sending your unit that you RMA'd over a month ago back, without fixing it, saying it was "tampered with".
I believe with every product, you as the customer should be able to feel safe. If not, even if you have a perfect unit, and something bad happens to it, then what?
I own a bentley continental gt, and i don't mind paying top dollar for it because i know it's insured, which means i won't be turned away when something arises.
I own a kitchenaid mixer, i don't mind paying top dollar for it because i know it's under warranty, which means i won't be turned away when something arises.
I own a nikon d3, i don't mind paying top dollar for it because i know it's under warranty, which means i won't be turned away when something arises.
I owned an Archos 5, i didn't mind paying top dollar(yes i think it's expensive for a media player, my opinion, but i didn't mind cos i was drawn by the specs and i knew archos wasn't a big company and i was willing to give them a shot) for it because i knew it was under warranty, which meant i wouldn't be turned away when something.. wait a minute..
SOLD.
I'm just smart enough to avert an inevitable disaster.
And don't be naive and say "then take care of your unit!".
Okay genius, Why don't you NOT buy insurance, and when you do get knocked down by a car, get cancer, or whatever, you'll realise, crap, ACCIDENTS HAPPEN.
It's something you fall back on, SHOULD, anything happen.
You say i'm trolling? Or are you just afraid to hear the truth. And cos you're still owning an archos, you feel compelled to defend yourself for owning it?
The thread title "Archos 5 - too many problems (?)".
It's not only the archos 5. It's ARCHOS themselves.
Cheers guys, I apologise to those i've offended.

@bearman
No problems with my Archos and I have had it for about 6 months now. Worked and works perfectly from day one. I do not have insurance on myself nor on the Archos. Why have it on the Archos? Its just an expensive toy anyways. From trends from Archos it wont be supported in a year or so. In which case I will take it apart and mod the crap out of it. All the while buying something better to replace it. No, I probably wouldn't buy Archos products ever again. But I won't buy a Zune ever again either. Technology changes too fast to care about insuring an expensive toy.

Well in the context of the archos, I am obviously referring to the warranty PROVIDED by archos, or not, in their case.

Re: Archos 5 - too many problems (?)
What good is a warranty really when the replacement is in worse condition than the one you sent in? I was so gung-ho about these when they first came out ... I even talked two of my friends into getting the same archos 5 250 like me. Worked like a charm for the small amount of time I used it for about 3 months and then one day, dead as a doorknob. I send in mine which was mint condition and get a beat-up, used one with scratches all over it and a stuck pixel ....... nice. My Archos days are over. I'll stick with Applecare and knowing that I can get something replaced by driving 2 miles to the mall and having someone swap it out.

@bearman: it is too easy to call a user a troll only because he expresses his frustration with a product.A customer is always right, and someday you will know why.
