i have an archos 404 and accidentally purchased the 5th gen head cam, not realizing it doesn't work with the 404. when i first got it it worked fine, but after about a week of use it just shows a picture of a camera with an X on it. Also it will still record audio through the camera cord. I also purchased the 404 DVR travel adapter hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I bought the same headcam, and I found that it didn't fit the 404 snugly due to some little plastic ridges. The 504 is slimmer than the 404, so the 404 did not snap on correctly.
To fix it, I took a dremmel, and ground off the ridges. Unfortunately, now I have to strap the camera attachment to my 404 using twist-ties, velcro straps or rubber bands... but hey, it works! 404 cameras are nearly impossible to find these days.
