The netbook market is booming. All they have to do is take a very small percentage of a huge market for them to make a lot of money.stopony wrote:I just bought an MSI wind with slightly better specs for $349, why onEarth would Archos want to enter this commodity business without adding anything new to the mix?

We know why Archos is entering the netbook market. It makes sense. It's what they're entering the market with. It's a very generic netbook. Maybe it will generate sales but it won't generate much admiration.
Re: Archos 10
Maybe Archos needs cash more than admiration right now? It's all very well to worry about the long-term effect of a decision like this, but if a company doesn't have liquidity to survive until the end of the month it's all rather academic.Archos5Fan wrote:We know why Archos is entering the netbook market. Of course, I'm not suggested that Archos necessarily is in this position. But the current economic situation is forcing a lot of business to do things for short-term survivial which they would not do things if they were able to take the long view

All I can say is wow.
Maybe they should have spent the time they used to throw this together and fix my 605. If the browsing experience was acceptable us 605 people wouldn't be switching and might consider another Archos product. As of now, no way.

So instead of fixing the problems of the 5 they come out with a new product, brilliant!
I'm loosing faith in Archos and lord knows how many players I've bought from Archos over the years.....
How many months since the Archos 5 came out? How many buggs still exist??? Not to mention the headphone jack on my 5 went bust and the first email to archos went unanswered and the second in which I complained in was responded to with a generic email for a RMA forum fill out!!! GRRRRR!

Archos have done that with all the previous ranges of device.lateralusman wrote:So instead of fixing the problems of the 5 they come out with a new product, brilliant!
We still had problems with the 704 and they brought out the 605/705 and then when they still had problems, they brought out the A5/A7, so you are not alone.
There are still problems with the GEN4 and GEN5 devices, but they are never going to be fixed.

It's just that no doubt the 5 is the buggiest of all the models I've had.

I am not trying to making a fame on this, but if you know Asus (the first to make the netbook) has earn a great sum of money by the netbook but also lose money because of the netbook. Try to check the finical report of it you will know. Also, I really don't see how this archos 10 outstanding than the others like Sony P or the HP Vivienne Tam version.

Re: Archos 10
The 10 is a solid performer, with little fanfare. There is certainly room in ANY market for a pair of Levi's. And that's what the 10 is. All the bling on Sony and HP's models is gauche.

Notice how netbooks are slowly, but surely, getting larger. Pretty soon the fancy "netbooks" will simply be lower-tier laptops.

Re: Archos 10
It does seem that way. Laptops are getting smaller and netbooks are getting bigger. Some of those old laptops are *huge*. They're not so big now except for some of the gaming laptops.
