Some mystery reasons why Archos does what they do!

Exactly, and the i-devices have a dedicated app to access YouTube - the Safari browser is not being used...

I just did a test, to navigate to youtube, search for a video and have the video start playing - 3min 20sec. My 605 was on and connected to my Wifi (excellent connection, a,b,g,n AP) before I started the browser. Then it took 1:57 to select another video from the sidebar and just as the video started playing it gave an "unrecognized codec" error. Been getting this error a lot lately using my 605.

Hi!

I can watch video's on youtube with my Archos. But when I've watched a movie on my Archos is gives a Cannot play stream error when trying to play a youtube video. When is restart my Archos (so shutdown and start again, going to standby doesn't fix it) I can play youtube video's again.

It's a kinda strange bug.

It is the Problem of the Firmware 2.x.xx (my thoughts), a week ago a had my Archos 605 with the 1.7.13 firmware, but i had wifi Problem with WEP encrypted networks. So after a long time i decided to upgrade to the newest one with flash9 support. My previous unit (which had an damaged usb port) was able to connect to the same network (firmware 2.1.40, the reason why i upgraded). With the old firmware i was able to watch ANY youtube video, i wanted (even the newest ones, dont know if only they or even the old ones were converted to the new codec). Now i'm not able to watch any youtube video with the opera browser, just single videos by streaming youtube through the twonky media server, and the problem with the wep network still exists (cant change the encryption cause it's the schools network). I wrote a mail to the german archos support that they should forward this notice to the french Archos Support. Archos only tells that this are problems because youtube changed the codec, but why arent they able to implement the old way or allow a downgrade (i know security holes for Archos and maybe copyright problems)?

Have you tried completely turning off (not suspending) your unit, then turning it on again. Seems to have helped others.

oh sorry it the complete shutdown worked, but i wonder why it did not work before cause i often shutdown my archos completely (many times i'm forced to do it because my archos does not wake up of standby, but the power led is green.) But nevertheless they should fix it that it will work without a complete shutdown and fix the other problems like mine described in the brackets.

At last I get it. I've twigged. The famous Archos 605 shutdown bug is there for a reason. Archos arranged for it that every third time we suspend, we actually have to shutdown, as this clears out all the other bugs (which are more annoying than the deliberate suspend bug).

And there's me thinking Archos hadn't a clue what they were doing.
