AV700 connection to pc problem

I have an Archos AV700, when I connect to my pc for some reason its not being recognised either as a windows device or hard drive. But when it's connected it does show on the Archos that it is connected to pc, I've tried connecting it to my wifes laptop and I still get the same problem. This is real pain as i cannot update any music etc. If I connect the lead to USB.A i'm able to read a memory stick etc. I've tried contacting Archos and they are next to useless, they don't seem to care about there customers once your Archos has got a bit dated...Any help would be very much appreciated.

This happens to me once with my AV500... and I hope you have all your music and files save in the PC... cause the only way I got around this was to Format the Archos by the built-in formatting proceedure... (System Settings...)

This made it recognizable again to the PC and I had to put all the files in there again...
