Blimey! Better get hacking then, see if we can't force a new firmware by cracking this one

Hi
It is true that Youtube is changing formats quicker than we can follow for the updates. Obviously, we won't have time to update the 605 unfortunately.

I hope that is not true.
I guess there is a reason Archos has remained a tier 3 maker of personal electronics. If they don't fix the flash issues many of us will be gone for good. It is hard to keep winning net new customers for every product when you run off all the old ones.
As I said, I hope that is not true.

me too (hope its not true) , but i reckon it is. I mean they are busy on the new models now. And here i am just got a 605 and its got no youtube functionality as advertised
Re: New Firmwares? Have we been forgotten?
If they are still advertising things that are not true I think that EU regulations grant the Europeans the right to return there devices at full refund. They'll run into problems when having a lot of customers returning their devices.
Maybe this is a language Archos understands....
I'm disappointed about the support, too. But to be honest: Youtube is not my focus. I'm still having fun with my 605.

Please DON'T send the poor guy a message - it's clear that he's doing his best in tricky situation, and he's now well aware of how we feel about the lack of a firmware update. If he gets bombarded by mails all it will do is stop him from coming on the forum. Let him report back to other people at Archos and see what happens first.
Cheers,
Crispin

I was not implying to bombard him , someone above asked how to contact him that is all.
he seems like a nice enough guy in a tight spot. weather archos has the time to sort out the 605 is the question. with the gen 6 out that will come first.

Re: New Firmwares? Have we been forgotten?
Well, That is disappointing.
I am torn. I love the video and movie playback and that is 75 % of what I bought if for. Nothing else does as well. + I use the Dish plug-in and that is a great feature.
However, I really expected to be able to use it for web browsing and flash video streaming. I would have bought a Touch if I knew how truly bad the web browsing was.

Re: New Firmwares? Have we been forgotten?
-Is it a bad idea or good idea to send e-mails to Archos, continuing to ask about Youtube playback? For example: "I just got my Archos 605, and it doesn't have Youtube! Is there a plan to fix this? If not, I am very disappointed by the false advertising. Etc." Or would this be counter-productive?
-Is it a bad idea or good idea to tell them that we are going to e-mail various reviewing websites (such as C-Net), and tell them that the player no longer supports youtube?

I haven't been following the apple situation, but what have they done about the Youtube format change? Have they provided updates for the iphone and itouch?

Re: New Firmwares? Have we been forgotten?
Youtube works fine on my iPhone.
Re: New Firmwares? Have we been forgotten?
The iphone / touch use different versions of youtube files (same with BBC iplayer too) - they use an H264/AAC version AFAIK.catnippants wrote:I haven't been following the apple situation, but what have they done about the Youtube format change? Have they provided updates for the iphone and itouch?

So, they won't be affected by changes to the flash codec.
I wonder if you can access the ipod versions with an Archos (with H264/AAC plugin, obviously)?

You'd need to spoof the useragent string (amongst other things) - not something you can do with the browser plugin as far as I'm aware.
